    That was the obvious question I was going to ask.

    If it is an SR20 and it had broken a rocker arm then the car would not run correctly(missing on 1 cylinder)

    If it is a CA18 then it doesn't have rocker arms but are quite prone to crank float and bottom end failure.

    sounds to me like bottom end failure, id pop off the rocker cover first and have a look to see if its the rocker arms though

    he said the noise is comin from the top of the engine not bottom
    most likely a broken rocker arm

    bootem end failure noises sound like they are comin from the head, happened me two months ago

    never heard a bottom end fail soundin like it was comin head thats a strange one

    was about to say that myself! could he have fucked a tapped or dropped a valve aswel? no expert on jap engines atall just having ideas.....

    Ive seen it a few times people thinking they had a tapping noise up top but it turned out to be bearings in the bottom end.
