Team Beard
yeah id heard something about that alright...that thing of his has crazy power
This arrived on my doorstep the week before last
Fully rebuilt and looking brand new. Ive never seen a recon'd turbo before but it looks like its never been near an engine. Some new studs and gaskets along with it too. Id say its not going to be fun getting it back on the manifold with all the hassle i had taking it off
I spent all last week waiting on parts that never turned up so I did some donkey work to keep myself busy. Lapping valves, god what a boring job. But it does make a nice difference
and then 4hours later
Some of my parts finally found there way here after spending about a week in customs. I had hoped they might have got in without the taxman noticing but no such luck. I ended up paying a big total €55.02 vat on all of these
I got my replacement injector from RC eng. too
but still no bloody sign of my seal and gaskest kit and pumpsIm really hoping they get here before the weekend so i can drop the block off for machining, but lets see how that goes.
The head gasket is being sent back too, tis the wrong oneim in no big rush at the min so its that important yet
Its been a bit since i updated any of this on here,
some new track rimmage i got for cheaps
and a big box of nissan goddies
like a muppet i went and ordered an s14 oil pick up with out checking my own, there already was the oil pick from a 14 in the car. Ive got another block i can use it on so not a total waste.
Ive had the head and block skimmed and over bored. Both were pretty straight and very little was all was taken off.
I brought the majority of parts into work and put them in one of the washers we have so everything is spotless and oil free now.
The plan was to use a 1mm cometic mgh, but ive got a cometic mhg on a different car and its started to leak so i was second guessing using it. So now ive got a 1.1mm cosworth gasket on its way to me.
Im still missing a a couple of bits to do the rb gearbox conversion so im gonna stick the sr box back in for the break in miles and have the rb good to go afterwards
.................................................
this is where things turned bad.
When i was torquing down my end caps there was a very loud crack and when everything was taken back out i found this looking back at me.
so that blocks fucked nowI picked up another block last night so gotta get that off for a skim and bore then i can start back into it again
fookin' ell I saw that block in your van when you picked the gearbox. Money down the drain, feckin cars. Deffo I would be pissed off

Bad luck lad, stick at it!

What size pistons did you buy colm? Much oversize?
Also what the advantage of the s14 pick up pipe is it larger in diameter or something?
400 horses............. 1 jockey
im using 86.5mm pistons so just .5mm over.
The opening on the s14 pickup is a different shape, in a different place on the pick up and a bigger than the one from the 180 block i think.
Ive got some pics of them being compaired somewhere that il dig out and stick up 2m.
Great work man, some nice few bits ya have there to keep yourself busy for
a while! keep us posted![]()
cheers lads. I keep forgetting to take a pic of the s14 pickup. If ya have a look on driftworks superclarkey does a real good explination of there differences. Il take some pics of mine when im back in the shed and manage to remember.
The new block is back with a skim and bore and now im back to where i was about 3weeks ago.
While ive had nothing to do I got the valves back into the head and got thinking about dirt.
After the head and deck skim there were a good few burrs left on surfaces of them both. They didnt seem loose or weak but I dont like burrs so brought the lot into work for an extra clean up. Then poped everything that touches the inside of the inside of the engine into a washer, new and old.
I might have went a bit over kill on the cleaning, it took me about 3hours after work on friday deburring the head and block and to wash everything.
i oiled and wrapped the lot individually so i wont have to take them from the clean bags until there going back into the engine.
I got some calico coated main bearing while waiting on the block
I got stuck into it today and got the crank and cradle back in trouble free this time. I was being very careful as i as did it lol Im still not exactly sure what happened with the last time so I was taking no risks this time round.
I went at gapping my rings then.
While i had it in work i decided to measure the new bores myself
they are, 86.50. 86.505. 86.51 and 86.515. I did the calcs for each of the bore dimensions and it didnt mean a measurable difference for the gaps so all was good
Again with my new found fear of fcuking things up i took it slow enough, fecking rings were hard as hell. Lots of filing to get the 1st ring to size, the others werent so bad.
all ready to go in
added a few rods
then some acl race bearings and in they popped
That was all i managed to get done today, tomorrow night im hoping to get the sump done and the head on if i have enough time.
