    Default 180 SX: Starting Issue

She broke the car already and I've only been gone for a day...

Anyhow, when we bought the car we were told that there was a procedure that had to be performed before the car would fire, due to the Walbro or fuel line being installed funnily or something.

The procedure was, prime the fuel pump twice, press the throttle twice, and then fire it up. This worked grand for the last few days, but this morning for some reason the car refused to fire when Kelly was heading to work but she managed to bump start it on a hill. The problem has reared it's head again this evening, and she is now stuck in town with the car.

Anybody got any clue as to why the car has to be started that way, and what can we do to sort it? Would it being low on petrol cause the firing problem today? When I say low, it's just under a quarter of a tank.

i have the same pump in my yoke,i just turn on the ignition and wait for the pump to stop making noise and then she turns over straight away, its hardly the battery is it???

does it have a fuel pressure reg it could be that,my reg wasnt put in properly when i got it and it struggled to start, and had to push start it to blow out the fuel as reg kept flooding the car!

is there much noise off the pump???

That's what we do, but we had to do it twice and it always worked. Except for today.

It has fpr alright. I reckoned she flooded it trying to get it to start, so she may leave it until she gets a posse together to push it.

Ya, there's a good noise off it alright.

first off a/m pumps work no different than stock ones...
should need no "extra" proceedures to start a car....
there's a fair noise off walbro's anyways but id nearly say your pump is fooked.

car have an alarm? or any fc or the likes? elec gadgets to do with fuel or spark?

He said it was only on cold mornings though. It has no trouble when it's running at all, just on start up. Sometimes itd fire up on the first turn of the key when we forgot to do the fancy pants pain in the arse procedure.

Much hassle to change a fuel pump in a 180?
