hi all
i hate a decent spec 14a that i want to drift.
what are the essentials i need?
also diff wise,is there anything other than welded i can use that'll not clunk on slow turns and try to kill me at every spirited drive?
thanks

id get a reclinable bucket seat anyway, have leater seats in my s15 and they are a disaster for keeping you held in when drifting.
other than that, maybe some coilovers to make the car a bit more solid.
get a 2way diff, if you get a not so aggresive one you wont have any clunking. they will try and kill you on spirited drives though
1.5 way diff if you can find one
thanks guys.i have coils, adjustable rear arms, upper and lower front and rear braces, locking collars and solid mounts on it already.
excuse the ignorance but whats the difference between 1.5 and 2 way?
i never understood it fully.
thanks
Its a myth about welded diffs and tryign to kill you! only in e36s ya really notice them from my experience.
a 2 way diff locks both on acceleration and deceleration. A 1.5 way only locks on acceleration.
Tbh, all you need to start learning (and to get to a bloody good level) is a diff, stiffen and lower the suspension, and a seat.
so which do you think would be best for a still usable road car?
Depends on the budget. If I had the cash id go for a 2 way, 1.5 way is only a half arsed one if you actually want to learn to drift. If your on a budget, weld it. I have an s14 daily driver with a welder and to be honest it doesnt even make any noise when you turn tight, its spot on.
oh really?
I thought they clunked all the time when they were welded on slow tight turns.
so you can still have a nice spirited drive aswell as drift with a welded. Thanks for that guys,i always thought a welded would try and kill you all the time you got throttle happy
as above i have a weld job in my 200sx and it's grand... if anything it's predictable cos its locked all the time...
it'll try and kill you as much as a 2way - just don't plant the foot on wet back roads, or fly off the clutch - unless your trying to go into the ditch
parking, very very tight corners, turning around, etc... is a little bit of a pain in the ass but you get used to it....
