Unhappy Bit of a whoopsie could turn nasty!

    Hi Folks

Looking for a little bit of help. Had a whoopsie in my 96gtst last night and hit a kirb head on, broke the intercooler pipe on the side on the intercooler where the piping kit fits on, a great big gaping hole! pulled in and had a look, when I started the car it obviously ran like a bag o shite! But if you revved it a little I could hear a rattle, thought big end.

After a while a mechanic buddy arrived and had a listen, revved it a few times and the rattle got less and less till it was gone and sounded normal.

Limped the car 1 mile home, and parked it up. Today started it and still no noise, running like shite but im assuming it because of the fubarred intercooler.

Sounds normal at the mo, what im wondering is could a piece of the intercooler gone into the engine? As the hole in the pipe was so big I assume there would be no pressure to suck it up? Or could it have been a stuck tappet or something??

Would it be normal for the noise to go completely.

Have I gotten away with it??

Took the intercooler pipes off and there was 2 pieces inside the pipe. but low down on the car, not up on top.

What are the chances of the metal going into the engine and the noise coming into it, then going away??

If the pieces got as far as the engine, ur turbo would be royaly analy raped and you'd notice that if to took the induction pipe off and had a look!

Turbo would be safe enough, intercooler is after the turbo. it could be just vvt rattle. They do that some times for no reason... It has vvt does it?

Well folks, thanks to Chucky we are back in business, the new front mount supplied by Barry motorsport fitted perfect! Cheers lad. And Chucky and myself had it fitted in no time!

Started it up and no noise and driving great!

Boosting great, and bumper will be back on tuesday!
Lesson learned, get my ass to a track day!
