mechanical water temp gauge

have mechanical water temp gauge here, tried to make sure it worked and no matter wat i do it wont go over 40 degrees... ive put it in hot water, boiling water and over a flame and still the same...

anyone know wat can be wrong?? or can the copper line maybe be replaced?? or could the actual sensor be faulty thanks lads

Did you try boiling the kettle twice??
