VVT's didnt start till the s14's I'm sure
My 95 180 is a blacktop non VVT anyway
mynes a 1994 non vvt blacktop
all 180sx engines are non vvt,,
there is the red top engine and the black top engine in the 180sx,the blacktop is not to be confused with the blacktop that is in the s14/s15's...the black top engine in the 180sx is non vvt.

none of the "straight cam" or (red top/black top) 180sx /s13 silvia's have vvt engines are easily identified by having a hump or slant on the rear of the rocker cover which is known as bent cam or vvt model from s14's and s15's 65f is also the block number stamped on the front of the vvt engines also has upturned inlet manifold unlike straight cam which is upside down..As for the rattle id be thinkin bottom end and nothing that rattles is a simple fix! like any fool would know the same..
