I still need to get my hands on the backing plate/ disc that fits between the block and the crank timing belt cog.

Does anyone have one of these lying about or is anyone breaking a RB20DET?

Its a flat metal disc, has a diameter of about 90mm and is about 1mm thick.

It has a hole in the center that fits over the crank so about 30mm in diameter.

There is one either side of the cog on the crank that your timing belt wraps around, they are used to keep the belt in place on the cog and stop it moving off or into the block.

    Basically yes.

It is a metal disc about the same size as a jam jar lid, there is one either side of the cog to keep the belt in place.
