My Built not bought 20v AE86 (project go slow)

Well where do I start I bought this ae86 back in 2006 and before that any car I got I sold after a few months this is the only car I could settle on. It came into the country with the following mods

Vertex kit
Revolver coilovers
TRD 2 Way
15" XR4 Longchamps
+
Completely Standard 16v

So after a bit of researching (at the time nobody had done a 20v road conversion in Ireland before) so all the info and parts I needed had to be sourced outside the country, things like waterline kit had to be got direct from japan not like the way it's easy to get them now. I began by collecting parts

In the meantime I sourced an engine in a local scrappy was unbelievably lucky at the time he was only a mile away and my last resort.

When I got all together I got in touch with Ronan from Roco performance one of the soundest down to earth lads you will meet with very reasonable prices and an extreme talent for fabrication. He converted the whole lot for me in less than 2 weeks and had it ready for mapping.

I bought an OMEX 600 series ECU with bosch coilpacks mapped by Martin treacy in Westward top man and very easy to deal with it made 164bhp which dosnt sound like a whole lot but believe me it is serious craic. So the end result

Skip to present day as this was done about 2 years ago. I ordered a brand new set of wheels last week which should be here shortly will have pics up when they land. A new set of coilovers is also been purchased its a toss up between the new version of BC or DW/HSD's whenever there realeased waiting to see what price they be as they seem a better job been inverted and stuff. The cousin is a panel beater so anyday now the cam is getting stripped back to the shell engine out and getting a full spray job either going with all black bearing in mind the new wheels are bronze or all a deep blood red coulor not sure yet?

Also have a serious lack of lock which needs to be sorted asap i meant to say I also converted to manual rack too.

Just to sum up im not building this to be some dreamer drifter its more of a hobby for me known I have a complete ae86 that im proud of and enjoying a few trackdays here and there

Not Watanabe's anyway I had planned on getting 2 14x10's (rear) and 2 14x9's (front) but the original price shot up over €600 from the original quote I got so I kept searching for something nice and found these

15x8 0+offset is the best size I could get them in but also have 25mm spacers going on the rear with 20mm on the front.

Hopefully turns out the way I want im ditching the TRD spoiler too. Still undecided wheter to put on the J-Blood spats and skirts or the leave standard rear bumper no skirts and slam that mofo on the ground.

I meant to say im ditching that front bumper too. I got an 87 bumper with 84 splitter mounted low down to go on instead.

Haha I have 2 minty trueno wings/lights and bonnet here but I changed my mind i'm gonna stay levin. I need 2 steel levin wings if anyone has any.

With the ae86 trackday day date set it gave me a bit of a kick in the arse to do something with the cam so met a lad today who was selling wings and fired them on. The standard front bumper with splitter I got off cloko that time that also went on as with the redlines. Kinda liking the no sideskirts and standard back bumper dont know whether to put the J-Blood gear on. I'm gonna leave it the way it is if I get it ready in time for the trackday and then strip it again for paint as the paint is in an awful state at the min theres pink/red/purple and blue on it lol.....,

just my opinion but it looks waaaaaaaaaaaay better with out the kit, get it all sprayed up and leave the bumpers black, winner winner chicken dinner. our ae86s can be like brothers ba ha....

Yea I think im leaving the kit off. I dunno what colour to go for Id prefer Black but it'd be a bitch of a job as I wouldnt be happy unless the engine bay and interior was done to. If I go Red all ive to worry about is the exterior but Black is my first preference. The cousin will be spraying it so may talk to him nicely and see lol.

Are you spraying your bumpers with that textured black paint or are they sprayed just Black?

not texture paint on my bumpers i used the finest of grafitti paint did the trick lovely, easy touched up when they get a scratch ya know yourself..

hmm yes black would be nice, but its a tough colour to look after shows up every lil scratch and shit...

Gonna have a go a swapping out the rack tomorro for a manual one dont know how thats going to fair out ive not pit or lift but sure thats the joys of it all!!

Still waiting on wheels, Ordered a set of BC coilovers too, The 2 should be here together will make sure and get pics in all its new flashyness for all of 10mins lol

You can run as much lock as you want without blowing seals on a manual rack. Also manual rack is best for feedback.

Although I've a bit of a fetish for all black or at least dark colour wheels. Cant wait to see them fitted. Something I havent seen before on an 86 anyway

Haha didnt know you were going to buy it, That was a long time ago now I cant see it ever been sold now. I went for Gold/Bronze in the wheels and im 97.5% sure im going all Black lol in colour with the car. With so many ae86's about and everyone into different styles its hard to be extra different so thats why I went for the wheels have never seen them in Ireland and never seen them on an ae86 so should be good, Could turn out to be a disaster yet sometimes different dosnt always mean good I still dream of the day of ordering a brand new set of wats but I cant see that happening for a while atleast until the currency changes. At the minute there €1600 for 2 x 14x10's and 2 x 14x9's with mega neg offsets I couldnt justify paying that for them so im going to wait to see if a decent 2nd hand set come up but even then there usually always over the 1k mark so I dunno????:confused::confused:

LOL. I work for my father. I'm slowly ousting him out of the top spot tho so no days off for me unless im nearly dead sick in the bed. Although he's fairly ok when I ask him for days off at short notice. Hopefully I get going to the trackday now take the Friday off. No better feeling ripping around a track when your suppose to be working haha. I'll probably get the car ready and wont have a trailer to get it up there as it wont be insured that always the way.
