Portlaoise 5th/6th March Aftermath

What a wkend..... After a disastrous start on Sat, having to push start the car twice then crashed - bashed up the front end and bent/broke a tie rod :(, but Wes and his boys helped me out and got it welded up. Got the car tracked yday morning, but the steering was still a bit mental. Yet managed to qualify for top 16 Semi Pro, and WON NOVICE :D
Thanks so much to Bart for putting the wkend together, the huge amount of track time and to team WKD for helping me get sorted.... Not bad for a girl, hey boys??!!:p

Hmmm!! After readin all this I think i'm going to put my reshellin on hold and go to the next one. When is it. Ish it open to everyone And wats the story wit cage etc?

looks like everyone had a great weekend and no one was giving out....
forgot to mention a big thanks to dave egan for his words on the mike..
really gave the drifting atmosphere into portlaoise..
and thanks to joe for the lend of his equipment..
lets hope that this is the start to something good down here...

A big thanks to Bart and the Port Laoise crew that organised the weekend and made it what it was, another thanks to the Wicklow crew for all the help and banter over the weekend, and a big thanks to the WKD crew for taking the time to come up and giving us an insight into what competitive drifting is all about. :) I for one am hooked and determined to enter more comps and generally improve my drifting skills.

There was some studs out there driving the weekend and a load of people surprised the shit out of me by driving the wheels off their cars. Stand outs include Stevo, Peter, Geordie, Famous JH, Eoin, and Newsome. Awesome driving lads, keep it up. :)

As for my driving.... I'll update my build thread later and have a moan there.

The session in town was class, I remember dancing so must've been pissed. But getting the first pint at 4 in the bar with Geordie probably didn't help. :D Did anybody nail your one with the skirt and bling that some black lad was stalking???

well llads i had an absolute great time this weekend ,, was a bag of nerves on saturday as it was my first time ever drifitng ,,,,car was a bit under powered for 17s but a quick wheel change to 16s got me sorted ,, the weeknd was going well broke 4 tie rods due to a stupid job i did for extra lock but ya learn from your mistakes .. bart your a gentleman for them bits ,,, i oe u a few drinks next time ,,, its great to be able to go to these knowing knowone but still be able to chat with anyone ,,, thanks to all for a great weekened cant qait to see ye at the next 1 ....

Such a great weekend from start to finish, the standard of people's drifting has improved so much and i think its thanks to the efforts that Bart and his team have put into setting these pratice days down in portlaoise, Big big thanks to Bart,fair play,;) Car went great for me all weekend bar a few hickups but was good enough to place me in semi-pro where a scraped my way into the final with Peter T who was on flyin form all day, we both drove the wheels off the 2 r32's and had to be called back for a rerun as it was so close, 2nd run was even closer with Pete only inches from me all the way, we both just got out of the cars at the end with big smiles and gave each other a big hand shake neither of us knowin who had takin the no.1 spot, Seems Pete had a slight slip up on the last turn of the last lap and so i took the win:D it was as close as that,
The sat nite was some laugh and good to meet a few more DI heads, Paul Murphy and crew, Fred balls, Greg an Keli, my man Stevo(on fire all weekend man, top drivin) and loads more, bit of a sick head sunday but every one was in the same boat, Cant wait for the nxt day out,

On another note... Hand out the window FAILLL!!!! Why do people do it??? Iv lost count of how many people iv seen doing it in Pd aswel who'v fcukd up perfectly good runs doing it..

I've noticed this aswell, makes no sense to me.
You may feel kinda cool doing it from in the car while in a drift
But from outside ya kinda look like a spa with no friends waving at strangers:D

What a weekend!! Was really disappointed with my performance in the comp, but for first day out and having never tried to twin before I suppose what could I expect. Was doing a really good run I thought in qualifying, then just tried too much angle on the last to get to the clip and spun. Fail! So was then up against pete. Not the best of draws for your first time trying to go close to a person. Was close enough on entry but then it just looked to me like Pete was going to spin, and I let off and straightened, but Pete had alot of lock and was actually spot on. Similar on the next corner. Tried my best from there, and on second run (somehow fucked up the entry a bit though, which was maybe me flustered?) but it was all over from the first corner really. :( But fairplay to Pete he killed it all day and was really entertaining to watch. Container banging at end was a massive tip your hat moment lol!!

But it was a great experience for me. I wont make the same mistake again. After only just building and painting the car hours before the comp, I was probably way too protective of it, but next time I wont. Feeling like you pussied out is worse than actually wrecking the car lol! I had some good runs over the weekend, only used two tyres (still a good bit left on them!), and got to try and bust the myth that mx5s/miatas cant drift...........well I made it plausible anyway!:D So roll on more tweaking, more seat time, more PL and prodrift! Cant feckin wait now!!

Had great banter with alot of ppl off here all weekend. Got to watch alot of members and see alot of ppl improve greatly too. Judging was spot on, but more than that to see the thought and arguing that went into it was brilliant. It showed that the lads (Dan, Barry, Wez) werent just going to throw out a decision so they could move on and warm up, they gave every run and every decision the respect and full concentration it deserved, and that voluntary commitment shows their passion for the sport. Ruling this weekend anything other than a massive success would be madness, and lets hope it can all continue in the future!

Thanks mate. Really enjoyed my practice runs trying to follow you, and manjiing up to the first corner. I'd say the colour will be staying for the fact that it looks quite good and to save a lot of hassle.

Oh and a massive thanks to Al.H for bringing down both mine and my brothers cars for the weekend. Couldnt recommend him enough, and had great craic with ya dude. Job!

Some fuking weekend, my god i never enjoyed myself as much before. I was dreading it at the start because it was the 1st time out in the 32 and it only has a standard handbrake and standard diff. But it was flying all weekend. Thanks to everyone for the good comments and helping out over the weekend. Special thanks to greg and geordy for loan of tools and hands. Ha. And of cource thanks to dan moorhead for the pointers.:D

Serious driving by all over the whole weekend. Had the craic saturday night, talking to s15 spec r for most of it. Ha.

The sunday was exellent. Qualified 8th in the pros.:D Every run i done was a one more time and i thought me and barry were never going to finish. Ha. I could keep going and going. Very well organised event cant wait for the next 1. Fair play to all.

wat an event! was only there on sunday watching and was very entertaining day nice to put faces to names off the site! and from the stories i heard i wish i stayed in the hotel saturday night! :eek::eek::p:D

First off...... Awesome weekend! Fair play to everybody involved! Bart and all the guys involved in running, judging and organising the event should all take a breather and realise that what they achieved for grass-roots drifting in Ireland this weekend was a huge leap forward for practice days and amatuer drifting in this country. Loads of track time, cheap entry and the feel of real competition will do wonders for some of us just getting into the sport and looking for fun and to improve our skills under little pressure in a relaxed environment. A complete success and I won't name everybody involved (they know who they are) but every one of us that went down had such a laugh and left with a big smiles on our faces! :-)

My car on the other hand was not quite right, suspension, allignment, tyres, clutch, lock and just about every small thing that could hamper me, did! But I still had a great weekend and it was a good tester to find out what needs to be uprated/changed. The big success for us was my bro Brian's (Trixta) MX5 drifting like a little rocket after all the work/late nights that went into it! (mechanic Paddy Brennan take a bow)

ps. A massive thank you to Al H for bringing both Good Luggage cars down....hero!

And an apology for my lack luster commentary towards the end. Had a week of 5 gigs, 2 nights out, work on the car, 2 days of drifting and no sleep. Was fit to drop when I got on the mic (fair play to Joe Fahy (pole drift) for the speaker system) but really enjoyed the action on track in the last 16. Could go on all day about individual drivers but the standard was savage.

I must say a quick apology to the person with the sr20 cam that lost his exhaust (if they're on the site or if someone on here knows them could they forward it on) . When it was all over I had 4 bits of cars in my hands and either walked to the cars and waited for the driver or I knew some of the faces ; ie : chucky and stevo , I walked over to Tommy is it ?? His s14a with a bit of his bumper and handed it into the window to him. So when you came behind me as I was walking around looking for the cam and said you'd take it I didnt want to risk giving it away to someone I didnt know and not knowing if they were genuine or not, I hope you understand I wasn't being cheeky or anything ;) :D

I have all my pics edited and ready to upload , all depending on if photobucket decides to work for me tonight as it didnt last night.
Mine arent half as good as the photos up already but I'll throw them up anyway (if I can).

Now that I'm a tad more awake than last night I can write a decent reply :

@Dan M : Sound man and near the end I was glad to see you fixing a few cones on the far side of the track as I was completely bollixed :o You frightened the shit out of us though when you were on the container and asked who was on the benson :p haha .

@Joe : you were doing great on saturday at the practice but then it seemed sunday just wasnt your day. Thanks for moving the R32 at the break so I could get out for food too ;)

@Bart : What can I say , car looks waaaay better in the light even though getting your spoiler on wasnt too easy in the end , great weekend organised and was glad to help out. Great driving from you on Saturday too , still waiting on that passenger lap :p

@Yowdy : Love the sound and speed of your drifts , over taking others and staying sideways was great to watch . I didn't start recording in time for your reverse jump into the air , was off by about 2 seconds :( When it happened I looked straight at Joey to see his reaction :eek:

@Newsome : Was in bits when you came over to me on sunday and completely heard you wrong when you introduced yourself hence the who are you :o :o Sound for coming over though , really enjoyed watching your driving , lovely sound off that car too.

@Greg : Car looked simply epic , love the wheel combo and love the way your not afraid to go all out.

@Keli : That high viz was certainly noticeable anyway :p

@Stevo : Man , where did you pull them skills out of ?? Great control and a great driver to watch improving as the days went on. Was raging when I didnt realise you missing the arch liner caused your brake pipe to burst as I hadnt realised you didnt know it came off. Thanks for driving around to me with the clipping point stuck to the front too :D

@Damo : Car looks class with the standard look about it , some amount of sparks off it on the ground. You drifting with the clipping point attached to the front and bringing it back after a lap to where you took it from was comical :D

@Sean Allen : Your car giving trouble was some kick in the nuts to end your weekend , even though you nearly ramped over the trailer putting the car up :eek:

@Peter : You got skills boiii , loved the container clip near the end , none of us got it on camera though :( But at least you left your mark :cool:

@Trixta : Man that car is soooooo cool , your some pilot in such a small car !! Loved the top down sliding about with just a helmet sticking up :cool:

@Joey : Fair play for helping everyone out on their cars , cable tieing those bumpers was a cunt , but at least ya had the hands of a midwife :p Burst out laughing when ya said that ;)

@Amy : That Rx sounds so cool , lovely rasp off it , your well able to control it too.
