The spec of the car is huge and iv not done a full list in ages!

Il copy and paste the best bits from the two threads linked above and copy in all the bits from this years rebuild.

i got the car totaly stock, uk car in 06, after a few years it took on lost of suspension mods and power mods but stade looking standard-ish.
This was after a few years of practice, i built it for 08 comp year.

I got all the rear end finished, brakes on and bled etc, temp alignment the lot, also got the front coilovers and tein rods and ends all fitted up, just got to do a bit more modding up front and fit the Apex castor arms, then wer good to go for graphics on tues.

This is where im at now and what iv been up to since xmas.


Iv also desided that as i cant afford a gear set for the rb box this year im going to make an increased capacity sump(an extra 2-3ltrs), add a thermostaticly controlled electric oil pump, an oil cooler and an oil filter, in the hope to reduce the chances of yet more box killage:wack:

If you are wondering why, its coz i snapped over 8 drive shafts in 09, im sick of changing the things. GTR is much stronger. Only worry il be blowing box's more again, lets hope the cooler will help that.

Checked the out put spline diamiter to see if ill need a GTR or late s14a/s15 2way diff. Tis the right size:D

GTR's have a locking diff from the factory but still no good to me, its going up for sale and is a good upgrade over the vlsd and is streight swap on late s14a and s15.

The input flange on the GTR diff is differant to sbody so that needs swapping out for an ABS Sbody flange. So that was taken off.

So it now looks a bit like this V . Il be using every thing other than the GTR locking diff and input flange.

The right ratio too:D 4.11:1 for any body who cant be arsed to work it out. EDIT: Excuse the manky finger, i dropped a gearbox on it a few weeks ago!

So i went up to EPracing today to see the legend that is Leon. We collected the last few bits to complete the "new look". And some other goodies. Just got to wait on the front bumpers to be air freighted!
I would list all the bits wer fitting but thatd give it all away!

The GTR shafts arived, the size differance is funny! Note the inner CV joint, its HUGE!! I busted a few of the shats throgh the casting last year on s14 shafts, cant see that happening again with these!!

Any way, its getting there, all be it slowely and the parts pile is growing and plans are changing.
I can no longer stretch to a two way diff so will be sticking with a good old welder in the GTR back end setup. And will now be running a forged 2ltr sr instead of the 2.2ltr as planned. Now plan to run a lower C/R, cam swing, port and flow and some cams to get the lag to a more usable level.

Have most the parts now appart from a few on that list i.e rest of wheels, front bumper and cams are being air freighted.

Next was to take out the stock s14 drive shafts, wheels berings and diff to replace it with the GTR bits.

Next was to take on the diff, Julian at GarageD sorted me with a nice open diff to be welded up!!

As im using the GTR cassing i got an s14 ABS diff input flange so the prop wont be too short!! I removed the ABS ring and dust cover from it so i can get a ring spanner on its easier.

Looks a bit odd but the diamiter of the shaft where the oil seal seals is the same, its just got no dust cover, but its not being built to do a 100k miles!

Fitted it to the casing and meshed it nice and tight to reduce transmission lash in the hope to stop braking bits!

Ok, iv not had much ime to update this as the last two weeks i been at workshop till gone 10-11pm every night and too nackerd to do so.
Here is a quick but ram packed update, been very very busy!!

Got the wheels for the front from Rarerims:worthy: lots of pissing aaround with spacers yet, stick out a lil bit too far.

Yea i was a bit hmm about grinding the crank but its the 1st time and its to .25mm over size, i thoght best to have a fresh grind rather than search around for a good second hand crank.

Any way, i got the engine prety much finished today.
Its the 1st time ive used ARP head stud and nut kit, no one ever said you have to install the studs once the head is on the engine:wack: The head wont slide down the studs as it touchs the chain guide, so took them back out, dropped the head on then re-installed the studs. Feck me do you have to do them tight!!! 105ftlb!! Says do it in 3 stages, i done it in 8 to be sure.

A bit of copper grease on the studs makes life LOOOAAAADDSS more easy!! Youd think itd burn off but it dont, when it comes to taking it back off, even after a year or more they come off really easy.

why have you a few different oil filters in the 1st of the last pics???

There is 4 oil filers the same, two z32 fuel filters and 2 s14 thermostats.

Me and a mate are building two identical engines, half the parts are for his.
One filter for the start up and 1st hours running on mineral oil then the other for the fully synthetic oil to be mapped and run in on, il use a 3rd befor the car is used. (one filter and fresh oil for start up,one filter and fresh oil for map and run in, one filter and fresh oil for 1st use):)

the oil return gets in the way of the tranny tunnel so a bit of choppy chopppy was needed, didnt have time to sort it yet but this well be getting coverd in a alloy plate and a big rubber grommet.

Congrats on the Falken backing! Car looks great, never liked the Instant Gentleman look but I do now, and with proper wheels/stance it will be sweet!

Kit is definatly subtle but its really frowing on me aspecially when the wheels arrive and the 3 are all side by side :)

Mean was not the word for this car it was pure evil looking....... The colour and the graphics were just mint............Everything went hand in hand with each other......... One of the nicest 14's out there by far........

But id sooner be burning up new fresh free rubber than worring about how my car looks...............

Car booked in for mapping, doing final checks on fresh engine build tonight, noticed a slight rattle, it turned out to be the waist gate!!!
The head has broken off of the valve!!! Looks like its due to the spring pushing un even pressure or being kinked, its basicly fubberd the hole lot!!!
But iv managed to bodge it with a bit of welding for tomorow, dont think il be getting my target figer of 500hp with it like this:cry: The valve no longer sits centre in the seat, i guess the valve stem is bent too. I sold a few plates to Greg and we done a few deals, got chatting etc, also Greg helped me spec the cams to the engine and has a very good understanding of setting it all up mechanicly, i.e dialing in the cams with a DTI.

After the manifold cracking over in Germany for the 10 hundredth time i thoght it was time for a re design with extra bracing and less weight/stress on the manifold.

I had them flow tested (masive thanks to Garage-D)as they wer used, they wer with in 3% of each other and flowed to nearly 900cc at 3bar!!

On the wiring side, im going to be getting rid of the earth controll crap they come with as stock, run two new big earths(one to each pump). For the live, il be fitting twin relays on the dash with direct feed fromt he battery.

Also, iv been making a new hand brake as the old one is starting to let me down more and more, the stadard type hydo does not offer the right feel for me, so im making one with more leverage............
still maintaining the stock lever for quick little adjustments mid drift.....
the idea is to make it as solid and precise as poss with no play side to side, or any chances of it ripping out the floor with the extra leverage, hence the beefyness of it.....

Red on the graphs is from yesterday with vvt working and at 1.7bar boost.
Green is from end of march when we 1st set the engine up and at 1.9bar.
So now its making about 80ftlb more torque at 4500rpm than befer with less boost:) And almost 25-50ftlb every where befor boost. Also note that it comes on boost 300ish rpm sooner. Yea its less power but i know which im going to prefer;)
