BMW heads help needed

rite lads i basiclly wanna know the difference between the 525 24v engine and the 523i engine as a guy is looking to px a 523i car for something that i have but i was looking for a 525 24v engine for a project so basically wanna know whats the difference
i"ve heard that the 525 24v are suppose to be 190bhp and the 523 are only 140bhp
can someone please clear up the do"S and don"ts for me asap as i need to deal over the wkd
any help is greatly appreciated

There restricted on power from 2.5 with small manifold easy change but
There nearly a cert to overheat, any one I've had that's a 2.3 has cooked

I've a 24v here, steel blck non vanos. Only catch is the loom is cut before the exuberant do I've no ecu for it

There identical engines apart from exhaust system and intake mani restrictions cousing 523 be only 170 bhp wheres 525 is 190 although as said before very easy to go back the proper 190 brake by changing mani and exhaust
p.s. both are 24valve m52b25

as said above really, and the 525 are an m50 with steel block, 523 are m52 with alloy block

As said above, their the same thing more or less. You can make changes to bring it to same power reletivly easily but hen why buy something to change for same effects....

Wouldn't say a M52b25 (523) engine is pointless over a M50b25 as it has its advantages.

the M52 with the M50 inlet and chipped to suit makes more power than an M50 too. Other big plus is the engine is alot lighter which helps.


What I would say however is... Why bother when you can get an M52b28 from a 328 and potential for an easy extra 50bhp and alot more torque :)

why so ive had them for years with little to no hassel unlike the nissans.a few light mods electric fan etc stops overheating problems
