View Full Version : whining noise
right, need a bit of advice, replaced the gearbox and clutch in the s14a a while back and got around to starting it up again the other weekend.
when i started it there was a whining noise comming from the car. i shut i off, and tried again and the noise was gone.
then, few days later i start the car up again and the noise is back.
i know its comming from the bell housing as its directly affected by dipping the clutch pedal,
doesnt start and stop as such, just the noise changes.
its not the gear set itself as theres no grinding and the car does drive forward and reverse okay.
the best way i can describe the noise is like the noise a supercharger makes.
i really dont want to pull the box again with no ideas and have the car sitting up another 6 months so can anyone recomend what it could be?
could it be the release bearing?
i did replace it when i did the clutch but if it got dirt in it or wasnt fitted right could that be it?
Oh, and it's an rb25 conversion too.
anyone wanna pull the box and sort it for me????

My Cusco clutch makes a similar noise and I'm led to believe it's normal? Although I wouldn't exactly call it loud, it isn't really that noticable

Actually our Silvia does something a bit similar but it's not very loud. More like when you know it's there you notice it but otherwise you probably wouldn't. I'm told the clutch in it is an ORC Super Single..

I haven't driven it in nearly two months I can hardly remember lol. I'll take it out for a spin tonight and see how loud!
The clutch kit I used was a blueprint kit.
And it far louder then what you lot seem to have.
There's no way you wouldn't hear this noise. And that's over he sound of the rb Erving with the screamer pipe.

Skyline used to do it on idle but dont really notice it now... its normal afaik!
strange that it never done it before when i bought te car first.
i'll get a recording of it when i get out the workshop during the week
and stick it up.
few people on driftworks recon they had the same noises with dodgy release bearings
as joe said above.
i should have 2 new ones in the boot anyway.
