Default Car cutting out when clutch pressed at 60mph??

    How a yis,

just changed the belts in my car but for some reason it's cutting out when you clutch it at 50 or 60 mph. Now dosn't cut out straight away, hit the clutch and as soon as the revs go right down the ignition lights come on and it cuts out until you let the clutch out again. Alternator running fine as far as we are aware. Anyone have any idea what it might be and if dangerous for the engine? It's an sr20 det by the way!

    Cheers,

    Paddy

could be release bearing, same thing happened in my gf dc2 and the release bearing was fried, is it only at the speed you said or anytime you dip the clutch? like if your taking off from a set of lights if the clutch is down do you hav to keep revving it to stop it from dying? just a suggestion man

sorry for delay in getting back lads, havnt been on in a few days.

It dosnt happen while stopped at lights or anything, its only when travelling at speed that it would happen.

Have checked the belt again, its well tight so not much chance of slipping, got a mechanic mate to check over it. alternator running smoothly, full of charge etc so really stumped to what it could be.

@ john, ive noticed that it idles very low alright, so was actaully wondering about that!

@Ste, never heard about that but will ask around and see what some of the lads say about it.

@Mick, Think its a 300zx AFM as far as I was told.

If it idles silly low or lumpy adjust it up a bit but if its grand at a standstill dont think it would effect it driving unless it was searching on idle

Not the same car but my omega was doing this ramdomly in mondello at the last drift day if i breaked and dipped the clutch for kicking just cut out asked an old timer mechanic and he reckons sumthing to do with break cylinder drawing air

I inherited that problem. Thanks Ste. I looked into it and read somewhere that it was something to do with taking the standard recirculating valve off and running an aftermarket dump valve. Once I got the Power FC fitted and mapped, the problem went away.
