Can someone explain to me the difference between a normal run of the day engine Example (Mirca, fiesta ect.) From a Horizontally Opposed engine which i have been told is in my family car 2005 Subaru forester tt

Instead of the pistosn moving up and down in a normal engine, they move horizontally in a horizontally opposed engine. Look up youtube, theres prob a few vids there to show it

engine is laid flat isted of up right, boxer engine

Very simpley, If you were to look at your engine from the front, your pistons move right to left where as the majority on in line engines move up and down.


Surely you didn'y buy a subaru without realising that it had a different engine design to nearly everything else on the road? Its probably the most famous thing about subaru and will generally cost you more to maintain then an normal engine...and be vastly heavier on fuel.

Is the forester not a twin scroll turbo setup?? Rather than a single?

not sure actualy, as im not sure what twin scroll is! i know our forester is defo a single turbo though!

Cheers Lad's It was exactly as i thought i knew that the pistons move horizontally but i was wondering if anything else was different
Oh and by the way the Subaru is a twin turbo and she dose go though the petrol
