Timing chain has to come off take out the inlet cam and change the sprocket and reset the timing, Do you still have the 180 engine you can get the sprocket off it, you'd have to get a mechanic to do it unless you can set the timing on a car..

use a v-tec controller to control the vvt quicker spool and better low down power

    Use a v-tec controller?

The Nissan vvt has no electronic connection whatsoever and is not controlled by the ecu so there is no way a controller could effect anything.

The vvt is not the only difference between the red top and black top.
The head is a different design, some of the breather and cooling take off from the block are different as well as the obvious turbo and intake manifold differences.

What is wrong with the old engine?

Keep the VVT lad, more low down torque out of it, 14 and 14a are almost exact same engine bar a feew small things, EGR etc, but ya might aswell get the correct loom and keep the vvt

if you re putting any s14 or 14a(both have vvt) engine in you will need to change

    engine
    engine wireing loom
    ecu
    air flow meter
    inter cooler pipeing
    interior rad pipeing from s14/a

to be honest id hold out and get a none vvt engine as its just a strait bolt in job unless you are getting the vvt engine very cheap

bullshit the vvt solenoid has no electrical connection??? It takes a 12v supply and that 12v turns on the vvt you could wire the solenoid in with a permanent feed but i am sure you would want to turn off the vvt at 5k like the standard s14 so you could use a VTEC controller to control the vvt but honda use different electrical system to nissan so pop on a relay and off you go or if you have a stand alone ecu with outputs on it you could be programmed in to switch on the vvt solenoid.

Yep VTEC your s body lol

What are you jibbering about? The Nissan vvt is operated solely by oil pressure, the revs/oil pressure rises, the vvt sprocket activates. There is no solenoid!

You've just written a whole post containing nothing based on fact whatsoever!!
