Default My SR86 build with a difference

This is my project combining 2 things I love, ae86 and VVL....

My Ae86 started life with me shortly after my younger brother died, he was more mad about ae86's then I was and had always wanted a Jap kitted cam!
He had already started saving for one at the age of 15.
Didnt take me long to decide to buy a mad looking cam in his memory.

When I first got my ae86 it was already fairly specced out with a nice 20v engine from an ae111.
One day talking with a mate I decided I wanted more power so started discussing sr20det but this had been done and done
    so I wanted something different.
An sr20det in an ae86 although fun I really love a high revving NA car!
So decided to stay NA with some of Nissans finest VVL!

Will be going with a high revving NA build with a target of 250+ hp which is a very realistic goal with the spec!
Some will be saying why didnt I just drop a F20C vtec but to me that would be a sin!! Not too mention its been dones plenty already.

Anyway bare with me as this will be a long build!

    Heres a bit about VVL........
    NEO VVL:
Nissan Ecology Oriented Variable Valve Lift and Timing (commonly known as VVL) is an automobile
variable valve timing technology developed by Nissan.
It was Nissans answer to VTEC!
VVL varies the timing, duration, and lift of valves by using hydraulic pressure switch between two different
sets of camshaft lobes. It functions similarly to Honda's VTEC system.

Basically what i'll be doing is bolting a vvl head (sr16ve) from a VZR to a rwd sr20 block using a 6 speed S15 box! Simples...

So anyway here is a few pics before I started.

Here is the expected spec list with most of it already sitting in the spare room!
I have been building up the parts for a long time now!

    Let the stripping begin....

Engine box and loom got shipped to new owner in UK!
At this stage I thought I would just be doing an engine swap but I kept stripping...

Also while I was at it stripped the vvl engine from a donar...

From here it went to Rocco performance for new engine mounts and shaft.
While there I seen some of his work on cages and decided to go with a Rocco cage!

Also decided while I was going this far i'd make sure I didnt have to do any rust repairs in a years time
so decided on a full strip with a sodablast to show any rust hiding...
sodablast showed up a few issues with sills but overall in very good cond.

Here's some pics of the car as it sits after blast.

Waiting on the cage and then its going off for some fab work on the sills.

In the mean time i'll show some pics of the goodies....
    Carbon...

    ITB's

    Valve cover....

    UPDATE 18/1/11

Rocco finished car leaving me with new cage/mounts and small bit of tunnel work.

While it was there I had it soda blasted to see what was lying beneath all the paint!
Found a few suprises but nothing too serious but decided too have them all sorted now so a long trip from Mayo to Rocco to Goldie and back to Mayo...

Goldie is a legend to deal with, Done some work on the sills/arches so hopefully no rust again!
    A rusty pic...

Got him to weld up all the extra holes on engine bay too

    Few more snaps...

So for now its back in the shed waiting on paint...

Pair of Bride Zeta III frp arrived today with fg rails thanks to Carpo! Snug is the word.... Time for weight watchers!!

Picked up 2 6 point Takata's too so should look like this when finished......:love:

Space for updates so the build stays on 1 page? delete them if you want.

Its gonna be stroked to 2.2 and running a CR of 12.5:1, she will easily make the 250.
There is rally lads running 200 out of properly built 1.6's
