Well being gay and driving an mx5 do go hand in hand. Just never forget to bring the poppers with you when going for a spin.

Exactly as said. Power wise, performance parts are pretty easily got from the UK. Big enough turbo/sc community over there. Standard parts and panels are actually very easy got as alot of mx5s in the country + with alot of women owners = alot of crashed mx5s and cars for breaking lol!! (waits to get slated )

But when you start trying to get drift specific parts, like the extra lock knuckles I got, or diffs etc then it does get alot more difficult, alot more figuring out and more expensive. Ideally I'd look to swap the 1.6 rear end for a 1.8 one for reliability, but the 1.6 has held up fine so far at least. Cage should be cheaper is a plus though!

Well I do have a hardtop, but wouldnt bother me anyway, large amount of open tops drifting in FD and I wont be anywhere near their speeds. Smoke in your hair ftw haha!!

Right so now I'm back on track.....and actually really excited about this again!

First we went to do the compression test. But again the car fought me, and 2 plugs just wont come out. Size 16 is slipping off, so short of hammering a 15 on (which doesnt seem like a great idea) it just wouldnt happen for me. Compression in the other two was 180psi (190 is factory spec), so I'm guessing something in the head (most likely valve stem seals). Either way I figured it was gonna be as much hassle to strip, diagnose and then fix the problem, as just getting another engine.

So I just sorted out a 1.6 engine, with less than 15k since being rebuilt for about E300 delivered from the UK. Bit of a bargain I think, so went ahead and got it. Should be delivered mid next week. It will also mean I could always build the other engine to proper mental spec over a long time frame if I wanted.

Next plan is to then hopefully go standalone management instead of the basic extra injector controller setup. So currently looking like I'll get a Megasquirt (MS2) plug and play, with IAT sensor and a wideband 02, so I can get rid of my AFM, and free up some more power. Also need to get some bigger injectors. Will be hoping for a good bit more power than what it was when done, but also for it to be reliable and safe.

Exterior wise theres a good few plans in the discussion stage atm, but pretty sure it will be changing quite a bit anyway.

Spending quite a bit, so it will now have to be kept for quite a long time. But I'm committed to it now and think it'll be worth it. God knows how I'll afford the cage and all the other bits in time, but gonna just take it step by step anyway...

Are you going to go full drift spec now or track/ road compromise Brian?
