great project guys, cant wait too see it finished!!
Ok we're back! We havnt been near this car for a while now and with
Prodrift quickly approaching, we're going to be VERY busy!
Here's an update including some of what we did last year and as of 2 days ago!
The steering rack mounts needed grinding to get the SR20 lump as low down as possible!
That should do!
Next we made engine mounts to hold the SR20 to the AE86 subframe
Making the AE86 mounts, into SR20 mounts!
Engine mounts made, and test fitting into car!
Gem starting to make up the gearbox mount
Gearbox mount finished, its actually alot stronger than it looks!
Just like that! A coat of black will finish it nicely!
Willis then started to weld in the new tunnel
Next on the list was welding custom 'traction brackets' onto the vanette axle, if we did it right,
the car should have lots of grip! If not then pulling that face really wasnt worth it!!
We needed to add more to the cage to pass regulations and to add some strength to the car!
So we set about welding in a rear X-bar
Done! We also cut out the rear shelf and welded in a bar between the rear shock mounts
Like so!
Then the driver's door bars
And complete!
Passenger door bars
And some weld shots! Not bad for first time!
With the larger tunnel now in place, we had to make a custom hydraulic handbrake mount,
separating the lever from the cylinder via a small diameter steel tube!
Turned out quite well and leaves plenty of room for the gearlever!
A quick lick of paint and she will be MINT!!
Thats all for now folks, more next weekend!
