    Default Minty.Fresh 1JZ-GTE Altezza

Figured I'd carry on in the actual build thread section rather than in the picture section of the forum, haha.

So, beginning of September, it all began

Last time anyone will be seeing this engine in my Altezza....

Got tired of putting this off, and figured the sooner I start, the sooner I will finish.

    Got a steel plate W58

    JZS161 engine brackets and mounts

Notched sump from the same car

    MKIV Supra bellhousing

And of course an engine from JDM Garage

Apparently low mileage....but we will see how true that is once I have it in front of me.

Engine arrived after a rather annoying wait for the courier. But I wont get into that....

Baaaah, straight off noticed a snapped VVTi solenoid

As I expected, missing inlet and outlet from the turbo, along with the bypass.

    No alternator

A gaping hole where the starter is supposed to be

Will need to source an A/C pump and take it apart for the bracket, to support the power steering pump. Otherwise it will put a lot of strain on the pas pump due to vibration.

At least all the plugs are there and uncut

Also came with an igniter, bonus!

    Ehm

Turbo is a bit dirty, but has minimal play even with no oil in the bearings

Dont think the Japanese understand the concept of oil changes.

85,000km? More like 85,000 miles judging by this sticker

    Engine Normal!!

Bought a refurbed PAS pump. Identical to the Beams one, pretty much.

    Also...

Slowly cleaned the sump from all the old oil

And popped the aristo sump on

Fitted the intake aristo engine bracket and mount

    Turbo looks ok

Fitted the exhaust bracket and mount.

Had to bend the oil feed slightly

And just out of curiosity, dropped the bastard in. Took like 5 minutes.

    Sump clearance - perfect!

    Bulkhead clearance - perfect!

Altezza PAS line bolted straight up

Got carried away cleaning the cam cover.

    Got my gearbox

Swapped the cable driven speed sensor for an electronic one from a spare box that I had lying around

    Altezza mount

Encountered some issues though, gearbox came without a bellhousing, but it did come with a fork. Never bothered checking what setup it was from. Ended up shit, way too short. New one on the way from Toyota.

    Another speed sensor??

Also decided to go change my rack bushes out as there was a fair bit of play in the steering and you could notice the rack moving.

The new ones that came are shit, no metal insert, wtf?

Still waiting on parts to turn up from JDM garage.

    Still to do:
Run fuel line and fuel return on pass side
Modify fuel pump to accept return (stock fpr delete)
Extend shifter housing (Depends on the type of shift lever that I buy)
Wiringwiringwiring. Will be relocating ECU inside the car.
    Exhaust fabrication
    Propshaft
    Buy flywheel and clutch
Run clutch line to passenger side
Replace water pump (OEM 1JZ has a plastic impeller)
Relocate oil filter and run a cooler (Anyone know of a decent 1JZ kit?)

Picked up a few parcels last night. Had no idea what it was. Opened them to find...

Engine mounts and clutch left to buy in order to drop the engine in! Exciting! Shame I have no money left

    ----

So I slowly bolted everything on.

Noticed that the alternator pulley has seen better days So thats another problem for future Pete.

Also, the turbo inlet that I got, does not seem to have a pipe where the idle control valve connects to. Its the black pipe that goes around the back of the engine. Anyone know what I should do with it?

Test fitted the engine with the gearbox

Shifter housing needs to be about 70mm further back.

Gearbox cross member didnt bolt up ideally, so will have a play tonight and see if I can get it secured better.

Clearance between the turbo outlet and the steering rack seems to be ok. Plenty of space for a downpipe.

    Tucked right in there

Used an IS200 throttle cable. Perfect length

Didnt like how the brake lines were in the way of the heater outlet on the engine

So I moved them about 100mm to the left. Also ran a clutch line that I got of a random FWD Toyota, while I was there.

In general, everything bolted up fine.

The altezza prop shaft is a little bit too long. Will try an is200 prop closer to the time.

    Messy

Made some changes to the JZX110 turbo intake to accept the JZX100 idle control valve pipe.

Since I'll be running an oil filter relocation kit along with a cooler, I decided to bypass the oem oil cooler since logic tells me that the oil will never get colder than the coolant temp. And if your coolant temps are high, that will in turn increase the temprerature of oil.... Undesired in my opinion.

Currently looks like this, but might change.

The power steering pump is usually supported by the air con. Without it I have heard stories that the pas pump bracket snaps the fixing point on the block. So option one was to find an air con pump and remove the bracket, but cant find anything for a reasonable price, so went ahead and mocked up a template for a bracket.

Might come in useful to some folk, here you go

Might not be the most accurate template, but it will do me just fine

A new water pump turned up. Which was a bit of a joke actually. Paid £80 for it, then parcelforce sent me an invoice for £35 'customs charges'.... Someone obviously cant do maths...

Didnt waste any time, pulled everything apart, replaced the pump

And found out that the water pump has already been replaced

Better safe than sorry I guess

Pulled a few plugs from a Toyota Carina ecu a few weeks ago.

De-pinned them, ready to go into the 1JZ ecu body plugs.

    Ended up something like this.

Also labeled them to make it a bit easier to connect down the line.

    Connected the following:

    28P
IGSW, BATT, +B, CCO, SPD, STP

    16P
W, MREL, FPR, FC, ABV, PRG

Not sure if anything else needs to be connected to the ECU to make it run. But that's all I'm aware of for the ECU. So if anyone has anything to add, they are more than welcome

    And a flashback picture!

    Cheers dudes!

Not much has happened. Got some engine mounts for a JZS161, 100mm tall. Loved these mounts on my last setup!

All bolted up. Had to mark them up so that they are lined up ok, since they do not have locating dowels like the oem ones.

Cant wait to drop it in already. Just a few more bits to do before i can go ahead.
