Tyre Stretch

Well fellas,

I am in the process of acquiring some 9j 15 inch wheels and I am looking to stretch tyres as much as possible on them. Mainly for looks and so that I can I get my car lower. What would people think my absolute max would be? 175?

Can someone explain for instance 8 195 45 r17? I presume the 8 is the width of wheel, the 195 is the width of tyre in mm, whats the 45? and the 17 is the size of wheel.

where you getting the 8 from?
45 is the tyre profile 17 18 etc is wheel size

On the tyre stretch website they have 8,9,10 etc infront of all there example pics and I was presuming that was width of wheel.... Can you explain what profile I should go for?

the profile is basically the height of the sidewall.
you're right, the first number is the witdh of the wheel from the innside of the lip to the inside of the lip. (bead to bead)
just look at the examples and see what you like best.

im stretchin a 195 45 15 onto a 9 inch wide rim,dont think any thing smaller would go on to easy as i have a serious job exploding them onto the rim

whats the stats on twails banded steels on the mx5?
they have serious stretch and i stretched them with a can of lynx and a stick with a lit rag on it.
simple as that.

165 45 15 is the streach for you but will be a cunt to get them on the rim but would look class

I read somewhere that a 175 stretched would be a serious stretch never mind a 165 haha......

Simon here on the site reckons in another thread that 175 should be no problem so I dont know?

well a 175 50 or 55 will fit but i think for a 15 inch rim u need a smaller tire wall,to sit it in the arch
