Sierra suspension for example, the toe and camber changes as the suspension compresses which is why some people pay a grand sterling for a 6° adjustable beam to stop this happening.
I'm not saying that huge degrees of camber doesn't affect tyre wear, but its incorrect toe that causes the majority. Adjusting camber on your car, in cases would affect the toe, but this might not always be adjustable. The tyre starts to eat itself and because "it was only the camber adjusted" people assume, this is the root cause.
