i actually had to watch that twice..

at a geuss, i'd say his plan was to be over the ramp infront of him as he dropped and land in reverse.

actually, looking at it again, ignore the above, i'd say by the way he hit the beam, he was trying to do a 180 and landing going down the ramp like in this video at 4.43
