Im in the middle of building a cage for one of me mates........ Have it well on now......... Im not a welder by any means but i have done a bit as the only way to learn is if you go at it..........

My welds from bars to bars and onto the floor plates are bang on there not a problem at all........ Where im having trouble is welding the floor plates onto the car............ Its a bastard to say the least......... I am getting them done but im not happy with the as im a bit of a perfectionst to say the least and it fucking wrecks my head when im doing something and its not right..........

Iv changed all the settings on the welder and fiddeled with the gas but its still a bitch............

Id be greatful for any advice on this from the experts as i really don't know what im doing wrong............!

Needs to be as clean as fuck lad any paint, oil or dirt will make the welds porous. Use a mini grinder with a wire brush and clean it till it shines. Even if theres dirt on the other side when you burn through it will fuck up the weld.

Floor skin is a different tickness to your floor plate to get good penatration on the floor plate you'll burn through the floor and to have the welder turned down not to burn through the floor you wont get good penatration on the floor plate, if your determent to weld it in get a happy medium with the settings and keep the wire burning into the floor plate and and just let the weld flow to the floor, dont do a full side of the plate at once because it will head up the floor too much the more you do and you'll get a hole again take brakes and let it cool down..

On thin plate like the floor your better off spot welding it (weld in small spots) and dont let it get to hot or you will burn through. Let me know how you get on.
