    Default ecu remapping, chipping? why?

i will bow to you lads greater knowledge of the newer way to gain power from a petrol motor!

ok so im running a lot of zetecs, having one done atm with bit of head work, cams and a big carb goin on it right..

but up to now i run using a standard wiring loom but im wanting some info and how remapping or getting an ecu chipped can help me?

at the minute the only ecu i have is from a 1.6 but i presume it doesnt matter much if its gonna be chipped or remapped does it or should i get my hands on an ecu from a 2 litre?

any help or advice greatly appreciated

generally, you'd map/chip the ecu the engine came with.
that or you'd get some stand alone after market ecu and have it mapped to suit the car from scratch.

give a couple of the lads that do it a shout and let em know what you have at the min and see what they can do for you.
a remap after getting the cams and head work will really give you the full benifit of the mods you've done and adjust the settings specifically to suit.

    as a rough idea,
newer cars can be mapped using the standard ecu through the diagnostics port,
older cars cant be done that way and some need to be opened up and new chips put in first.
