Default Whats good for me? what would you recommend?

    Hey lads

Firstly, love the forum, its basically just pages of car porn

New to this forum though not at all un accustomed to forum life in the past and i need some input from those in the know on what is a good "learner" car for me, a first RWD car.

Im used to having mild poke out of my old (and now sadly dead) Legacy, 330bhp is what i am used too and would certainly like something with good power so as not to feel like a bit of a down grade as even that power got a bit yaw inducing at times. Something with good tuning potential and also and availability of parts.

However, and i'm sure you'll agree, going from a forgiving 300+ 4WD car to a 300+ RWD is like chalk and cheese and maybe a quick way to get myself killed?

    So what do you think....

id say obviously the route most taken is S body, 180sx or S14 etc etc, is this a good car to just hop into? or should i maybe consider something less prone to murder like a Altezza and maybe progress to a forced induction car later?

Also, i suppose you need to know my driving plans and intentions, I have no intention of becoming the next Daigo Saito, i just want something that on a weekend i can have some fun in on the mountain roads, or maybe do a spot of sideways action on the way home from the cinema on a wet evening. So with that in mind... where would you say an AE86 would rank in my suitability? bearing in mind the vast difference in power that i'm used too

    basically

You need an S-body I think to feel like you still have power.
Altezzas are dead as fuck, and a cam would be fun for rings but no good for the small bit of straight line speed your used to in the legacy.

I'd say a non turbo Sr20 would fit the bill , good for a bit of sideways craic, good for Daly driving and a good way to feel up how a sbody reacts then you could always drop in a turbo if you want more power
    That's my opinion anyway

ae86 power doesnt come into it, its the drive. you will have 10x more fun driving a slow as fuck ae86 than the subaru, guaranteed!

Also, 300bhp isnt much really, its not enough to want to kill you anyways, id say just buy an s14, try find one without kit etc so you dont have to go really slowly over bumpy roads, and there ya go, ta daaa

    thanks for the replies lads

Have always fancied a Hachi but the price to be honest is a bit of a turn off when trying to find one in good order, just to say "i owned one of those. Also i think a well sorted stock example is an investment.

Not sure about the whole N/A thing, though it may be the only way to get an S15 though, which are my favourite s chassis as prices are going crazy nowadays for turbo S15's. but the price an hassle of a turbo swap don the line i may as well bite the bullet and buy a spec r

hmmm i think s14 may be the best way forward, lots around easy parts etc etc. just not very unique

in a strange way i kind of like R33 skylines, when done right.. they arent too much as i think most people think they are ugly

from a "bomb proof" level what can take more abuse an SR20 or an RB20?
