I wouldn't go to FD if it was in my back garden but as he makes out in the film, it's like a gateway for amateurs. He didn't envision it as the be all and end all of drifting. Without it people might never know what drifting is and might never get into it. There always needs to be a top level and the progression in it will always filter down to the lower levels. It keeps it alive and it makes companies want to get involved and develop and sell more products to the general market.
