Default SR20 Tapping - video now!!

    Hi

Prob not the easier thing to tell here so my first question is is there anybody around the Donegal Town area that knows their SR20's that could have a look?

Problem is this - VVT Sr20

Hearing pretty loud tapping noise coming from the cm cover area. Noticeable on Idle but goes away with throttle. It also seems to be running rich if thats related.

    Like this

Possible causes I've google from people with same symptoms

Injector tick - seems too loud though.
    VVT actuator - ??
    Rocker arms - ??

    Anyone any ideas ?

VTC sprocket almost certainly. Goes in every single one of them

does it go away once you lift the clutch and put load on it?

When does it happen? When the engine is hot or straight away on start up?
How loud is it? Do you have to lift the bonnet to hear it?

haven't had a bonnet on since I noticed it but I'd say I could hear it through one also straight away from cold - stays when heated up.

    Cheers lads...

When my vvt sprocket shat itself it only made noise when the car warmed up...
Did it just start making noise out of the blue or always since you got the car?
Could be a lifter gone bad too if the engine has alot of miles on it

Yeah it would do no harm anyway, the vvt hub started as a light ticking with me and after a while when it got really hot in traffic or sumthin it got ridiculously loud...
Also now that i think of it the light ticking went away when reved..

Also took cam cover off and on the inlet side the top of one of the cam nodes (?) looks like this, positioned about where the noise is coming from - all others are lovely an smooth.

The oil pipe above the camshaft has two little holes over each lobe,
They're blocked over that lobe i'd say lad...
The rocker's probably damaged too but as for the tapping
The lifter should take up the slack from the worn lobe but maybe i'm wrong..
