Serious machines friend of mine has 1 was in it the other night fucking lovley yokes.
Love it i really want one of these as a daily/tow wagon instead of the pajero. what are they like to live with everyday and tow with?
Yep, will be doing recovery at Superdrift events when I'm not drifting myself. When the novelty of driving it wears off and I trust somebody else with it (probably be a while! lol), I'll let others use it if I'm drifting as well.
Yeah, about 10-15K of go faster or more so go further bitson it from a rough add up of sums one night.
I've another 5K of a shopping list done up though
But won't be rushing with that lot for a while yet once I get the main things like the bigger IC, castor arms and things.
They are a real mar-mite kinda yoke to be honest... People either love them or hate them. I always loved the look of them with stuff done to them, Always thought they were abit plain looking and even more so, utterly shite to drive standard though.
Drove a totally standard 30K mile 110 van before I went to look at this one and I absolutely hated it in comparison to any others I drove with some work done.
With the re-map, Disco transfer box or overdrive fitted and a good covering sound proofing they can be improved loads though! This one sits very comfortably on the motorway at 60-70 with pretty much road noise from the mud tyres. You still feel the weight of it on a backroad obviously especially with the lift and roof-rack etc but it actually handles surprisingly well for what it is and your brave enough to get over the fact of being up so high
Would definitely get a 110 over a 90 too if on the road alot as they are much more planted, turning circle is terrible though and I don't know how people manage the 130 around towns!
I haven't done much towing with it so far but it would have the '95 Pajero 2.8 we have for breakfast!
Reliablity can be a problem though as a bad one will break your heat and drive you to tears in no time!
It really pays to keep looking until you find a good one (I've been contemplating one for about a year and started looking properly for one since October, granted the winter was a bad time to be trying to buy one as people weren't selling in fear of the snow) especially if its a TD5 one as they are more expensive to fix engine-wise and need diagnostics for everything. the older tdi ones are more basic and friendlier for working on but they don't sound as good and wouldn't have anywhere near as much power and torque as a 5 pot thats had some tinkering.
In terms of fuel economy, was doing about 20mpg while towing earlier in the week doing deliveries (about 2.5t load including the trailer on backroads) Was up and down to Cork today then so about 65-75mph on the motorway and abit of city driving and some 45-50mph light driving then locally and it seems to be doing about 30mpg so not bad considering the weight, aero-dynamics and the 12.5x33" muds.
If I took off the roof-rack, fitted narrower road tyres or even just A/Ts it would probably do 5-10mpg better but it would look sh!te then... worth the sacrifice I reckon
Of course, if I store a couple of different maps on the nanocom I can have one or two maps set to optium towing, economy or just power for acting the maggot in it.
Needs a bigger intercooler and de-cat first anyway!

FFS Dave that's savage!
I've been having a little look at these for a daily an towing - my Freelander is grand but borderline towing. Bot too sure how I'd get on with one of these daily though...
