for extra lock you would need 5mm steering rack spacers then you have to cut out 20mm and re-weld the knuckles on the back of the hub where the track rod end sits for more lock, give dave m-sport a shout on this and have a chat with him, i had a 1.8 in my bmw too i have a 318is and i thought it was jus too dead in 2nd gear so i'm changing up engines myself
coilovers too would be a good step as it would make her handling a lot better too

ive got a 320 as a daily. coilovers make a serious difference and theyre only 250ish brand new. as for extra lock, ive just got rack spacers, no need for modified knuckles unless your tracking it. would deffinatly recommend a hydro. and getting rid of the dual mass flywheel if your clutch goes.
you could also try find a short ratio diff, would need to be out of an auto 316/318is, but if you travel a bit for work it wouldnt be worth it.
    is it a 1.8 or a 1.9?

while we'r talking about e36s, is there stronger half shafts that can be used insted of the normal ones? they seem week as shit and keep breaking, heard e46s ones are better? anyone any info?
