    Default Drift Innovation Motorsport S14

Some of you may have been following this build on Facebook but I'v been meaning to post it up here too!

This is Gary Mahony's S14, which we fully rebuilt during 2012 with alot of changes.. The development and
improvements are on-going with this car as with the sport itself, and we use this car to show our capabilities and
    craftsmanship at Drift Innovation Motorsport.

The build on Facebook - DI Motorsport S14

So this is Gary's S14 after the 2011 Prodrift season before we started the tear down!

Taking it right down to a bare shell

Front cut for larger wheel tubs

Bob started on the driver-side wheel tub

    Driver-side complete

    Passenger-side complete

Tunnel and bulkhead cut to make room for the RB25 box

This size of a tunnel allowed us to move the engine, box, rad and intercooler
2 inches back, helping with weight distribution and protecting the intercooler!

Bob started on the new tunnel

    Tunnel complete!

Tunnel and front wheel tubs complete

Making brackets for the rad and intercooler

    Bob welding the brackets in

Some brackets i made to secure the rad and intercooler from the top

    Welded in place

Our Dummy SR20 Engine in, with the rad and intercooler all bolted up

Cutting the rear arches for more clearance

    Rear arches complete

Next i started making some brackets to secure the new boot floor

    Bent at right angles

    And cut into individual brackets

Then we started making floor mounts for Gary's seat rail.. Gary's a tall guy so
his seat bolts directly to the floor!

    Welded in

We then started fitting the over-fenders, squeezed to a little over 50mm

Bob doing some trimming to allow more wheel clearance

Welding some gussets in to tie the cage to the chassis some more

Next up we made our own hydraulic handbrake

After giving it some thought, we changed the round bar connecting the lever
to the cylinder to a square bar for added strength!

The modified Subframe and Engine Mounts Bob made

All fabrication finished and the shell fully sealed, ready for paint at MG Crash Repairs

The engine building room where Bob will be building the Forged SR20 Engine for our S14

    Lapping the valves in

All the bits ready for assembly

The Pistons, Rod's, Crank, Pulley, Flywheel and Clutch were all balanced together

Freshly bored, honed and decked block ready to be built

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand finished!!

And back from paint!! We were delighted with the colour, its a certain Grey colour I'v wanted to
spray my own car for a long time and mixed with the Purple interior Gary wanted, it looks
very well in the flesh! Big shout out to Mark at MG Crash Repairs for the amazing job!

Next task was the wiring, here is the switch panel and fuse board Bob made

And I stared putting the rear suspension back in

Rear wiring loom for the fuel pump and rear lights

    Modified Gearbox Mount

    And a lick of paint!

We now have the built engine and box sitting in

Bob started making up a new exhaust

    Starting to come together now!

    Attention to detail is key!!

We then made some knew Steering Knuckles

To aid cooling we came up with a Front Ducting System

Bumper fits perfectly over the Front Duct

And to shed more weight we replaced all glass with Polycarbonate

Bob made Window Frames to keep the Polycarbonate in the doors rigid

We cut the doors out saving a huge amount of weight and I came up with a
simple yet effective way of replacing the inside door handle

Brake Bias Adjuster to help with left foot braking and warming tyres

    Hydraulic Handbrake lines going in

    Bob making a battery box

We ran the rear wiring loom behind the sill to protect the loom

    Interior shaping up

    Passenger Seat Rails Bob made

Here's the Front Crash Bar / Bumper support bar we made

Making a Tow Strap and fixing it to the Crash Bar

    Some grip for the front!

We made our own version of 'Smart Strings' Alignment System as Steering and
Suspension Setup is a big part of what we do!

    On the front

    And on the rear

And the car on the tables ready for me to set it up for testing the next day in Mondello

And here's some of the only shots I found of the car in Mondello at the Prodrift Final's..
Unfortunately in these shots its only running 17x7j's on the rear for the first few runs so
Gary can get used to the changes from last year, especially the higher level of grip

The car isnt fully complete, we're waiting on wider front wings, wheel change/colour change
and some sort of rear wing/spoiler in the next few weeks! Thanks for reading!
