If its only slightly tapping and still running somewhat ok, it might just be manifold gasket or somewhere around there blown, or mayb cracked..

Check and see if theres exhaust gases blowing from somewhere, or if its not this you may have done rocker arm damage if its an SR20.

Yea its an SR20.I didnt get around to taking the rocker cover off yet to see whats its like in there.The car is running fine no shortage in power etc,just this tappin noise.I heard a car running with the big end bearing gone and it was alot louder than this.fingers crossed

if its still running ok could it be the vvt ratteling? would they start ratteling just like that?
