help (stud removal)

right folks long story short one of the studs that comes out of the head for the manifold has cracked off and is now stuck inside ihe head

we tried drilling the stud out but it is way too strong 5 mins of solid drilling barely made a dent on it

then we tried welding a piece onto it well my mechanic did and that didnt work

it seems the only option is to take the head off which is a retarded amount of work and expense for a broken stud

if anyone in cork things they can remove this stud i will put cash in your hands

i had 3 break on me and i got 2 out drilled small hole in centre and taped in allen key or star head and wind it out need a real good bit for it. 3rd one just wouldnt turned wouldnt grip so a lad drilled it out bigger and put in a hellicoil. just very hard to get at

did it a few times before tap the centre wit a punch and go get good drill bits sometimes an angle drill is neeeded to get in at it depending on where the stud is next get a stud extractor there like a screw except they have a left hand thread screw tis in till it gets tight then carefully keep twisting till it comes out
be carefull when your drilling thou not to drill into the block
also if its only one stud u might get away wit leaving it as it is

thanks lads its the last stud by the back of the engine so i dont thing ill get away just leaving it out , we were trying to drill it out with a 90 degree drill bit but cant get enough force on it , so im thinking we should take out the abs to give us more spece so we can fit the drill in

Make sure you have the exhaust ports blocked up so swarf from the drilling doesn't end up inside the cylinders.

same thing happened me before was the end one furthest back an easy outs wouldn get it so ended up havin to take the head off an get it drilled out in engineer shop an hellicoil put in.

this is the same one that snapped on mine , we were going to take the head out but ended up welding another bolt onto the cracked one , dont know how long that will last but its worth a shot before we take off the head

it was the same one for me and i had the lad drill it out and fit the hellicoil never had to take head of
