Default MX5 any good to start drifting

As above lads me and a buddy looking for a cheap starter car. He wants to do track days and i want to drift. We dont want a turbo so we can fix it as we go. Budget is about €1000 so we were looking at a 1.8 mx5 and strip it out weld the diff and trash it. What do people think opinions please

Why not a turbo? I had my 200 for sale for near enough that and all it needed was a bit of welding.
