Default RB26DETT Starting issue - help

    Where do i start....?

Before i went to OZ last year, i parked up the r32 in a garage (last september).

It was running perfect, except for alternator and starter issue. Got home a few weeks ago, took out the starter and alternator as it wouldnt start. Got them both reconditioned. Both were fitted back to the car last week.

Put it all back together last weekend, changed oils, etc and it still wouldnt start, but the engine would turn. I ripped out alarm/immob thinking that it might be stuck, but no. Checked fuel pump, appears to be working alright.

So today, i decided to chase a bit further, spark. I took off the coilpack cover and noticed the right hand side rocker cover was discoloured, kinda a browny colour (was painted yellow). So i disconnected all the coilpacks, and moved the harness out of the way. First coilpack seemed to be damaged (cracked), all the rest were cracked, melted and snapped when i tried to remove them.

They are splitfire coilpacks (roughly 18months old). I'm no mechanic, but even i know that's not good news. Plugs are NGK BKR8EIX
What would have caused this? I dont even know where to start!

In the loom to each coilpack are there any spilt wires that could have shorted off each other??

Just peel back the tape a bit on each one and have a quick look!!

Im only familliar with the 25 but I assume on the 26 each coilpack has a loom going to it!!

I presume it's a R32 Gtr we are talking about. The problem might be the coils have been all over charged resulting in the windings melting and cracking the outer cover.

Have you taken out the plugs and cleaned them ?

@ robbie: It's a 32 Gtst with rb27gtr engine fitted. Sounds serious enough andrew, I'm sure if it went as far as to melt the coils there may be damage in other places too, before getting coils you may want to go through the loom as much as you can to see if there is any melting along the lines.
