why foam fill frame

i have seen a few d1 cars have foam filled frame what would the real benifits of this be lads.

any really.i was talking to a guy which he was the tec adviser for a company that does sealers glues and expanding foam in dublin and he said that they are have to be heat and water safe to meet E.U standard
