do seats and harness's have to be in date in order to compete?

Nope, they just need to be fixed back.

AFAIK they can be on sliding rails too but need to be side mount

Harness;
has to be atleast 3" thick and of FIA standard.
they DONT have to be new or in date.

Seats;
fixed back and of FIA standard.
they DONT have to be new or in date.
They DONT have to be side mount.

Seat rails;
have to be fixed solid.

PD Rules sheet, just print a copy and tick them off as you go round the car..

ah cheers jonathon, read over that earlier but didnt see anything about things needing to be in date,

on another note, i meant to ask ya on sunday, where did ya get the cobra seats thats in your 14?
