Default engine un-used for some time...

I have a sr20 redtop here that im fitting to my cam atm, the engine hasnt been running now for 2years; is there anything i should do before firing it up again other than the usual oil plugs and turning it over etc.

should i look at doing the big end bearing and head gasket or is there any real need?

the engine was running fine before and its not fitted to the car yet if that makes any odds

    any helpful comments welcome

Has it been in a damp area ? I dunno if it would be a problem for you but I had piston rings rust to the cylinder walls in a mini due to the carb taking in moisture...

By right if its out you should, but if you start with rings and bearings it will prob cost you more than the engine plan ahead but thats worst case tbh,

Take the plugs out get a socket and turn it over by make sure its not seized,
All ye need is fresh oil and filter, leave pugs out when its fitted, wired and plummed up, turn it over leaving the oil return off the turbo (into a bucket) turn it over till fresh oil is coming out, connect it back up, plugs in and fire it up....... Driving it on will clear it up a good bit....

Unplug ignitors and turn over until oil pressure is up
    then just start it
banging it off the limiter straight away is optional
