if it a tramp ,it wouldnt behard to make a few mounts lad duno bout loom tho
ull have to change the sump, pickup pipe, dipstick nd engine mount brackets to ones off a 6 cylinder 3 series. and then the engine will fit in. but wiring is ur enemy!![]()
Pretty straight forward swap if one is an E34 520 and the other is an E36 316.
Engine, E36 sump, oil pickup, dipstick, engine mounts, rad, 6 cylinder clocks, E36 exhaust system and few other bits and pieces.
I wouldn't bother though. You would get a 320 for half nothing if that's what you wanted or just get a 320 engine and drop it straight in.
Otherwise, I'd be getting a 325, 328 or M3 engine if I was doing it at all.
The story is that me sister owns`the 316 and the head is fooked in it and i have a 520 sittin there with a good engine so i'm just tryin to find the cheapest way out've it for her..
If i have to get her another engine i'll probably just go with another 1600.. Pick them up for fook all i'd imagine?
With the hassle of trying to get the E36 parts to fit the 520 engine, it would be easier and probably as cheap to buy some shitty 320 or cheap 325 as you would need the front springs too.
You'll pick up a 316 engine very cheap though or a 318 engine would be handy too as they are more or less the same thing so a straight swap but abit more power which is nice to have and probably better on fuel too
