Right boys and girdles, sorry bout the delay in getting an update posted up, with the hand being broke, working on Prodrift Round 1 and Holly giving a hand at Darren's (frankly awesome) Need For Speed D-Mac 86, we've been flat out at other things aswell as working on the FC. One of the main time consumers has been the fact that the car was a UK model FC and spent some of its years on the Isle of Wight, which has left it with quite a lot of surface rust. We decided that while were going to the lengths were going to with the this shell that we might as well get rid of all rust altogether on both the shell (although it wasnt too bad) and the subframes and arms, as the shell might last one event or it might last 10 years, so while it was up on the spit we said we would do it right if we were doing it at all. It was very time consuming but the end result is a minty fresh shell which has been treated to a nice coat of white paint on the underneath by one of my new sponsors, Daniel Hegarty of DansBodyWorx (big thanks Dan!!!) down at MCNSPORT in Buttevant on the Friday before Round 1
Dan also laid on the satin white/satin black paint scheme on the Need For Speed car so his work speaks for itself.
After the usual madness that went on in Ennis Monday was a write off so bright and early Tuesday we got the car off the spit with Holly acting as chief forklift operator!
In order for it to take its place...
In the main bay, where the Need For Speed car has recently vacated
Indeed!
And so we have the 4.3:1 two way diff, and also the rear subframe with rear lower arms and modified front subframe with front lower control arms, all fitted with polyurethane bushes from another new sponsor, Mazdatrix, who are based in California (www.mazdatrix.com). We are also fitting a camber adjuster rod, toe eliminator bushes as the FCs have rear steer as standard and individual camber adjuster links left and right which are to come from Formula D driver and FC specialist Justin Pawlak.
Satin black FTW!
Holly's brother PaddyHalloran (pronounced as one word) makes a welcome appearance to do some sanding to get the inside of the shell ready for paint
We had bespoke polyurethane bushes made for the diff, which were made to perfection by my good friend Philip Shine. Philip can can more or less anything, from anything, so give me a PM if you would be interested in having any parts made.
Now the back of the van is after seeing some fairly quaere things in its time, but this time its pretty normal in the shape of an SR20!
Happy and Holly fitting the front subframe and arms
