    Default What box for SR

Well I'm getting fed up of this subject, I bought a R34 GTR Getrag box to use in my 180sx, it turns out that it needs a few bits to make it back to working condidtion and it would cost me more then buying a new box :wack:

I just need a gearbox solution, and i'm looking for ideas, i've been looking at posh after market ones but i don't think any of them would be really upto the job, Quife boxes are £6k and only rated at 350bhp :wack: unrealistic market there hey?

Any surgestions or things i could look at, I still think the best solution would be a getrag V160 R34 GTR box, but at £3k its just not worth it for a secondhand box.

Will be running 550bhp and 550ft lb, needs to be able to hold 600-700bhp at least.

    Clarkey.

Jesus lad its hard to know....! Whats a rb25 box good for....! Close to 600.....! Your pretty limited if your looking for something that will hold 700 bhp....! Z32 box are same internals as an rb25 aren't they....! I know its expensive but maybe getrags the way 2 go....! Unless you wanna keep on blowing rb25 boxes....!

I had a 400bhp SR with a stock W71C gearbox and it lasted all year, on sticky Federal RS-R595 tyres, just got a bit noisey but didn't break.

The Rb25 box is clearly a good option and i already have the conversion plate here, but the box will not really be happy with 550bhp, thats thet same as running it behind a 650bhp skyline engine (as skylines don't make the torques the SR's do at the same power)

Because i plan to use Nitro to bring the car up onto boost it will produce alot of low down grunt, and will smash gears..

The other thing to bear inmind is the finial ratio, most people run 4.4/4.6 finals which doesn't pit as much load on the gearbox, but i run 4:1 finial as i prefer long gearing.

    Clarkey.

I'm sure if i wanted to i could make a small casing box last me, but i don't liek the fact i have to constantly drive around the box, thinking soft clutch pedal thoughts... lol.

99% of the problem is the clutch people used, i used a OS Giken supersinge and it was perfect, slipped when dropping clutch in low gears and always griped ect, I've now got a silvertop HKS twin plate sprung clutch which is more agressive.

I have full RB25 gearbox set up here, just would perfer something more hardcore.
