    Default Rev counter question?

My rev counter is gone nuts! its all over the place. Showing mad high revs that im clearly not doing like at idle its reading anywhere between 3k and 5k.
Only started when I was driving home late last night and I saw the revs were reading 8k.
Scared the shit outa me for a minute.

Any ideas what this could be??

What car is it? If its a mechanical cable driven speedo you need a new cable as its worn and flexing causeing it to read 8k... Cable craft make up new cables!

try pushing the whole thing in,with a finger, in around where the needle is, does it make any difference? if so - lose connection then ? mine does (on a 200 )

u know the button thingie right beside that switches you in between clock and temperature.. if you push it hard and the rev counter changes i think u have a loose connection then! havnt fixed it myself, have revs on the boost gauge and blitz gauge so dont care lol

my rev clocks dont work either.
but its because of the conversion not broken clocks.

found a guide to convert mech to elec speedo signal though so it's all good. i'll fix it eventually.

    Cheers for the replies.
I gave it a lil push and the needle settled down. Will pull it apart and clean the contacts see how it goes.
I couldnt just leave it. It does my head in watching it flyin around.
