Welcome along. Nothing wrong with 318. Weld it up and about 50 psi in the rears!!!
I had an e36 with a welder and about 60 psi in the rears. It was fine for learning. Great crack in the wet and very predictable as to how it was going react. Did have the ring the neck of it tho.
I have a rock solid welded diff for a 318is if your stuck mate ;) Pm if your interested. Have a pair of 18 inch ac schnitzel wheels too.
