Had an offer of a swap of this altezza.
Never had a rwd before. Just wondering what these are like?
Prob going to view. Anything in particular to look out for?

Ive never had one, but they are underpowered/slow and bad on juice. worse than a silvia people say! They earnt a repuation as a yoke to do donuts in to be fair. That one actually wouldnt look the worst if you got some nicer wheels!powersteering pumps give a lot of hassle on them when theyre ragged.

Power Steering pump is the main issue with Altezza's. Was bad from the factory and lads diffing them doesn't help so they are a common problem.
Another thing is to check ball joints and shocks.
If you are going to look at an altezza and it's the 207bhp(from the factory, most Altezza's in Ireland are around 170-180bhp) one you are looking for make sure the chassis starts with sxe10 as this is the 4 cylinder beams tuned engine. There is also a gxe10 which is a 6 cylinder (same engine as the is200- 153bhp)
Like most RWD check the booth to check for any damage or bends in the chassis.
Great car but if you have driven a VTEC you will find the power drop hard, they use a good bit of juice but are a great car and fun aswell.
Also the tezz in the link has had a hard life so make sure you give it a good look over :)
Ive owned an altezza, nice daily and can still have a bit of crack in but are underpowered a bit but that all depends wat power u have had before and as pete says not that great on juice and power steering dose give trouble..wat u swapping ?

Altezza will be slower and cost more to run.
Buy an is200 sport, far nicer car, cheaper to buy and easier to find a good one.
More trouble than their worth for the vast majority of them in ireland and the good ones are generally fairly pricey,if your looking for cheap rwd fun id say go for a beemer imo
Had one myself grand comfortable car but heavy on juice (22mpg) ball joints and power steering pumps are known problems! Other than that check the back arches from inside the boot because some of them are rusting there and letting in water! A lot of them are ringed to death!
As everyone says there under powered. i found them about the same as an sr20 on petrol as long as you take it handy. I bought the one i have now because its a practical daily car that you can have a bit of fun in.
is200 as in the lexus they are completely shite as bad as an altezza is with the beams engine the is200 have far less powerQuote:

I have 1 as a daily really comfortable aswell but underpowered in the dry, id get a 318is for cheap if i was you plenty of power and good fun for small money.
In my opinion this car looks as if it has seeing its fair share of abuse, lot cleaner ones out there to be had

It was up for 1500 (or nearest offer, I'd say sold alot less then that!)
And that fella puts it up as spotless and was up yday or day before for 3100 ha

It did have one or two nice parts tho the greddy gauges etc..
Not worth that tho! There guzzlers on petrol
And in comparison to your b18, to let ya know I had a b18 ek9 and it was a hell of alot faster then a Altezza. Get yourself a good s body. I did, I'm 16 months on from buying my silvia and I wouldn't even think of selling it or going back down from one

Full leather interior, much more optional extras available like sat nav heated seats etc. Sport model comes with a diff but in both cars is200 or altezza is useless cause both are only good for buns. Depends what you want the car for really, is200 is less powerfull but much more comfortable and as said much easier to find a good one that hasnt been ragged. I would agree is200 is a nicer car.Quote:

The big difference being you can still get a good clean unabused straight is200. 99% of altezzas are bate and after getting hopped off half the ditches in ireland. And as said previous only good for rings so imo better off with an is200. If ya want a proper rwd buy an srQuote:

I have driven both the is and the altezza, i prefer the altezza. If your looking for comfort, the vw passat springs to mind.

Altezza's can look lovely if done right. Standard aero (not TRD kit!!), a set of wide SSR Professors, coilovers, the stardard chrome Altezza grill (not the TRD one!!) and drop it on it's hole with really nice wheel fitment. WIN!
