iv seen alot of people dropping the RB25 for a SR20.
SR20 revs higher and is alot lighter than the RB.
if doing an RB swap id go for a RB26. more power and can handle alot more stress
yea but im broke so thats why its a toss up between a tuned sr over a standard rb
Spend the money on the sr, theres alot you can do to an sr with the money it would cost to do the rb swap:D
buy chris's rb26 man
Keep the SR20, and spend a few quid fitting an RB25 gearbox. Best of both worlds, then tear the hole out of it :D
rb! so you have a sexy sound. and a strong gearbox.
so if its not the RB sound ya want, but a standard RB, with satandard powaaaa
is it just cause the RB would be more free revving?
i say sr20 tho :o
I'm in the same boat as yourself man, i REALLY wana RB my yoke, not just for the noise, well actually alot is cause of the noise but the RB's are hugely strong and have massive tuning potential..
Weight is one thing putting me off, all that extra weight up front i think would effect the steering, making it stiffer and unbalancing the car..
Cutting the bulkhead and moving the engine back slightly is one option but alot of fabrication!
The SR is a good engine, easy enough to get 400 reliable horsepower and mated to an RB box, its great for drifting.. Just sounds dead though compared to an RB, ha!
I'd be fitting an RB25 engine with a big highlight and plus factor on the extra weight of it over the front end.. An SR20 is alot lighter, but with the extra weight of the RB, it helps to prevent understeer buy putting a bit more pressure on the steering wheels, which will help ya direct it where ya want it...
Also, with the 6 cylinders, your going to have alot more torque low down, along with opening a whole new window of tuning potential...
Oh, and the RB's make that wee noise too (thanks to those extra 2 cylinders ) ;)
RB the fuck right out of her and enjoy the power and torque on demand. Its a common transplant for a reason.. IT WORKS VERY WELL.
The only thing about extra weight on the front end though would mean your steering wouldnt be as easy going, i.e when you need to quickly correct a slide with the steering wheel it'll feel heavier..
Its a tough one, only way to find out is to actually do the conversion, ha!
Or ask someone that already has the conversion done, in a very nice manner, if you can have a go at horsing the sh!te out of their motor for a lap or 2.. ;) lol
Its the best way to make full and valid tehcnical decision as to whether or not you would like to spend £2000 from start to finish on a full SR > RB conversion :D
Stick with the sr dude.
Rebuild it, proper sized turbo and run e85, itl be reliable, feck all lag and lots of torque
I love the sound of rb's but the rb26 is prone to melting pistons from fuel starvation down the rail and are well known for sh1te oil flow. I think the rb25 shares some of those problems too, but i could be wrong.
I was told recently too that the design of the rb pistons really help in destroying head gaskets, if your getting one do the HG before ya even stick it into your car.
end of the day its your choice, but i know what id be doing :)
im sticking with my sr and gettin a big turbo for it
good call ;)
what tubby are you going for?
Buy my engine! 330bhp, 320ft lb's of torque!!!!
I'm RB'n my yoke fo sho:D
Sent ya a PM!
Hmmmm JZ it lad then you get a proper savage engine and chassis:D
Any update on this? I'd stick with the sr20, build a good bottom end and srtong vavles and springs yer onto a winner, may not have gorgeous rb sound but not as expensive to get parts for. Take a look at Mazworks(i think) sr20 drag car s15, around 1500bhp afaik! So SR's are well capable.Have a look at sxoc for rb25 swaps info if your still in two minds:)
Heres a link to info I put up on DW about the conversion.........
http://www.driftworks.com/forum/tech...rb25-swap.html
Also found out that theres another crowd doing engine mounts called Ruckus Racing, they let you keep the standard R33 rubber mounts and lowers/sets back the engine......@ around 100 euro, they're way cheaper than the Syko ones (500 euro for custom mounts)
rb for show sr for go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
rb25, easy reliable 400 bhp! ahh just 2jz it to fuck!
You can push 400 out of a standard internal sr20 too! ^^^^As alan said:D:D
