If its ur first track yoke your best getting summit cheaper to slide than that and learn the skills and build your confidence up b4 getting a dear yoke, ur bound to make a few mistakes and you dont want be repairing a good car all the time and the car will just end up destroyed. Unless ur minted and can afford to bash and repair summit nice. just my 2 cents!!
on second thought i think id be best to take your advise.....only thing is its hard to know what to start of with....maybe BMW 325 328 or Altezza some of them are going under a grand least you wouldnt have too much to loose with one of them yokes i suppose..
Ah there's a few s13 an s14's goin for small money now on donedeal. No bother gettin the parts here then if ye need them
s body is what most people start off in plenty of power and will b more that capable than u are at the start s bodys are going cheep these days

If its any use to you i was always told if i start in an underpowered car it will make me a way better driver ie. na 16 valce cam or somethin like that... I assume its cas u have to be alot more commited
as dan above me said start off in something underpowerd like a 320 itl make you a much much better driver because it teaches you how to push your car as hard as you can
what would a sr20de be like for starting off
Shame ta track her but so easy ta get parts for the s14s.sr20s fairly relable engines.
i had the same problem last year bud and one of the lads convinced me that an s bodied sr20det was the best way to go and i never regretted getting it i'm still only learnin but the cars more than capable for startin out..
I personally started in sierra's, no power and bad lock made it good craic so when i made the jump to the first skyline i had sliding it was really handy in comparrison and had loads of confidence
Buy something that only needs minimal work, parts add up if you buy a cheaper car.
buy a mx5 import and go nuts mate :D

Start out in any rwd car your budget suits.!
I have a 32 year old dx corolla standard 1.6 carb engine and still gave it a go the last day at drift fest.
So dont know where lads say a 2litre wouldnt have the go to drift!
Under powered makes you work much harder, but in the long run if you can learn in one you'll become a much better driver as once you hop into a 180 or the likes you'll be flying!
You wouldnt be able to do it the other way aound as easy from a high powered car to a lowwer n/a car as you'd get a serious wake up call!
as has been said, gettin some cheapish that you dont mind if you wreck it.
mx5 1.8 or a 325,323,328 e36 bmw.
