Car transporter €190

I saw this bloke today towing a car on a small metal frame kind of yoke, hooked onto his tow bar.
I followed him up the road and asked him where he got it. He bought it in the auto trader for €190, he was towing a punto and it seemed fairly sturdy on it.
I didn't see how it was hooked onto the car but the car being towed on all four wheels just rolling behind:)

The lad said it turns the car into a trailer therefore legal to tow:D
Don't know how legal it is though I reckon you'd be pulled by the cops with it:mad:
If so I'll be getting one for the 180:D:D

Anyone see these before or know the legalities involved

Nt much good if ya ya whack your 180 off a wall etc etc on a trackday tho...:P put the money towards a transporter lad...you'l be better off..;)

It would do me I'm only starting out and it's a cheap alternative to a trailer
ATM I'd have to pay 50 quid to rent one for a day

Only down side is if ya lamp it:D but usually there's a few lads who will have trailers so I could do a swap with someone who's car is still rolling:D

I don't think it was an a-frame or car dolly as all 4 wheels were rolling.
I even seen him take a turn and the steering wheel in the car being towed turned too:confused:

lad all 4 wheels turn with this attached to the car. The arms on the A frame are attached to the bottom arms and then you let the handbrake off and the keys in the ignition and away you go

Yeah I thought an A-frame and a car dolly where the same thing
A car dolly lifts the front wheels but my car's too low like most drift cars.

I think the car being towed has to be road legal and taxed and nct'd and even at that it can only be used to recover a broken down car by law

Anyone use them let us know how the guards treat them.

Looks the job alright bit more expensive than 190 but probably worth it.
Might look into getting one of these if I know there 100% legal

Any of the above unless you have an articulated truck licence or a car / van / jeep & trailer licence yer fucked.

Anything over 750kg on tow is illegal with a full B Licence.

So back to the drawing board guys.

what way do they work when you have a lowered car with a uras bumper .... would you trust them at 70mph .....
it s hard to beat the car transporter with a few rachet straps beating down the motorway

I use 1 of these to tow my merc around to events at da crosses and i never had any bother with it, my father also uses it and says shes good to take weight also :)

i have 1 of those have towed vans jeeps sierras granadas all types of cars they are brill yoke but there is a down side with towing a 4x4 its hard to stop it from tearing cv joints and if car is very low it will damage the bumper has car will be bouncing up and down following the road now the worst bit, towing a car with a welded diff is very dangerous as the towed car wants to go straight when your turning 1 jack knifed on friend of mine an wrecked the quarter panel of the tower car.. its like a tractor with diff lock on dosnt want to turn so wouldnt recommend it if car been towed has welded diff....

i never got pulled but often met the gards and i passed them 1 day while they were checking for speed and i was towing a combo van behind a mondeo they never blinked an eye. and we towed a sierra from mayo to letterkenny behind a 94 fiesta van lol before meet the gards couple times never pulled us in. iv just a standard full B license.

Oh God I cant answer all of the above posts.

But put it this way.

I have a licence to drive up to an 18 tonne Rigid truck. Because i passed a test.

Funny that because I dont have one to drive my Dads Jeep with a trailer. lol.

But when I was 16 I got a licence that allowed me to drive a tractor at 60kms/hr with no particular weight limit.

Figure that out sensibly. ?

Irish laws are proper COCK.

I think it's worth the risk until i get up the funds to buy a trailor.
