project keeping it cheap

hello folks, i picked this E36 up today. its a 323i (2.5) as im only 13 ill be doing most of the work myself also so it will be done right and ill take my time :) so time for pics,

i wasted no time in getting her into the shed and set about stripping it, heres the condition of the interior

started removing the sound deadening with only a hammer and a screwdriver/chisel :p
if anyone has any good easy ways of removing it please let me know :)

i use ta park my car in the sun when i was removing that stuff because the sound deadening would just rise so i can jus peel it off but id say a good blast of a hair dryer would do the same

Leave the car out in the sun for a day or two and the sound-deadening will just crack away and peel off which is great as the glue comes away with it too and doesn't leave any residue or anything behind only nice clean paint.... oh wait, it's Ireland :rolleyes:

Spilling brake-fluid helps alot too in removing it funnily enough as I found out once unintentionally.

Usual way I do it is just get it soft with the heat gun and just peel it off with a scraper.
Then use thinners to clean off the shit thats left behind afterwards.


Its a clean looking 323i! Change the waterpump and stat before you do any hard driving with it anyway as if the alloy engine cooks, its pretty much scrap. Some of the early ones had a plastic impeller pump too that used slip on the shaft which wasn't good but you can get metal impeller versions from most good motorfactors or from the likes of Barrysmotorsport on here.


Looks like a very straight shell though :)
