@the broken stud - drill the stud and hammer in a torx bit. IMO works the best.

good work, should be crunchy
where did you send the turbo for the rebuild and how much in total
turbo dynamics in england did it, was about £230 for the refurb i think.
the engine is ready to go back into the car now. The plan was to get it in over the weekend but i burned my hand in work on friday and only realised saturday morning when it was raw and cover in blisters how bad it really was so that really screwed me over doing things 1.5handly.
When sticking the tubro back on the block I noticed that the water feed/return lines were blocked off on my engine. I never coped it when i was taking the turbo off for some reason but that prob had some hand in my turbo seals shiting themselves.
I got some hydraulic lines made up to use for the water lines, i can see now why they might have decided not to use them when the tubby was stuck on in japland. pain in the hole running the return line.
anyway, engine is all back together.clutch and gearbox are bolted on and crane is out and ready to pop it back in after work tomorrow.
Ive got pics but cant find the cable so il stick em up when i get it
i had the same prob wit a mani stud before ended up have to bring it to a machine shop to get the bolt milled out was perfect after tho...its still a rite ball ache wen it happens tho
it was a right pain in the hole alright. I ended up drilling most of it out in the end and using a torx bit to unscrew it and then retapped it afterwards just be get the threads back healthy again.
Im lacking pics again but the engine is in! :D finally back where it belongs

Fair play man, sum project:cool:
Thats some project and some mental work put into it,
fair play to ya mate, keep up the good work. Hope it goes 100per cent for ya :)
Cheers lads :)
It lives!!................ kinda....
had all sorts of shit trying to get this started. I thought it was battery related but ended up being the starter. It was on it way out from months of bad e85 cold starts and the new compression seems to be too much for it.
With the plugs it in the starter was stalling. Without the plugs in its still not strong enough to turn the engine over enough to do a proper comression test. You need 300rpm to do the check. and I can only manage 100rpm and am making between 145-150psi at that.
A fixed starter in and it started on about he 15th attempt. The new setup isnt liking the current map much so is having lots of trouble starting and then keeping going. It was a gamble to see if it would even start with the old map, but it did :D:D for bout 15secs till i spotted an oil leak lol.
I need to do some more tightening up on some oil lines and on the belts and shes good to go then get a new map on her and start racking up the miles
Just read it all there, savage work man. Awesome craftsmanship!
