Is that front bar bolted onto the intercooler??
https://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/...02486613_n.jpg
Looks like it's bolted to the chassis legs as normal and the intercooler is mounted to the bumper bar
Ah I actually see the brace back now
sorry for the late reply dude!
Its on the chassis leg and its going underneath the intercooler aswell (i think as i havent been to see it yet) but the intercooler was on the standard bumper bar with 2 little brackets and thats basically what john has done again to hold the intercooler. Tidy job really!
Ill have more pics of the work when it comes back anyway.
Right, got the car back safe and sound. Really happy with the work done by the lads at grip fab hats off to them. They had strength and weight in mind when building it and it shows its a really strong structure on the back with low amounts of bars etc.
I stripped the car of its rear panels now im going to prep for painting and such and do my own little touches but overall im really happy with it. Now to let the pics do the talking

Now to just prep all the areas and paint it.
Also thinking of removing the rear subframe and either building that one up or build another one. Ive traction and toe rods there i just need camber and to buy all the bushes. Full steam ahead from hear on!
Looks the nuts dec :) looking forward to seeing it painted up!!
Roll video :P
John.
aaaaaaw yih! looks like a real life drift car alrite!!
Been toying with the idea of cutting the back of my yoke and getting a fuel cell but cant decide if its a good idea? Have you driven it with this set up yet dec? Starting to come together nicely for ya
No i havent yet jeff but from the conclusion to myself is this. Its very cost effective. Thats the main thing it helps with. Convenience is another thing in the case of another shunt its either going to be a few things like
Overfender
A bar or 2
Maybe bend back the light surround if needed
A light/ lights
Bumper
Boot
And even that would be in a worse case scenario!
So rather than having to pull out stretched and bent metal why not make it a hell of a lot easier for yourself. ive yet to test and see if the car really light on the back and what traction is like, then again i haven't really ever had good traction with the pikey alignment i have :p
I see alot of people doing it lately and if you can get overs that wrap completely around the arch, why not go and chop the hole back end off to fuck and make your own setup. It seems a no brainer to me anyway and im raging i didn't do it in the first place
Oh and as regards the rear lights, don't mind the scruffy ones, ive a clean set to go on :)
Yeah i get the whole if you give her a tip thing im just worried itd end up too light and drive queer Yano? And also id have to buy the fuel cell from grip fab cause the tank is under the boot floor in a 180  But considering so many are doing it it cant be that bad its just ive heard of a few people regretting it but i duno i suppose just man up and do it :P just stop bitching about and go take her for a spin there tonight will you :p
Threw everything back on today for final mock up.
Drilled all the holes and used self tapping dome head black screws for using on the overfenders. Credit to Dori88 for telling me that trick as pop rivets hold them in too tight and more likely to crack them.
I put on my filler cap, it needed a bit of modding to fit but it fits nicely in there now on the overfender. I might leave it shut all the time and re-route the filler neck underneath the boot lid as trying to keep it shut and locked and still being able to open is proving a bit of a pain.
Oh and i had to throw on the numberplate, it just looks so out of place to me without it and with the kouki spoiler i think it adds a bit more mean-ness to the arse of the car. Now to try and get that going on in the front.

Heres a few pics of the bumper bar bolted off a few people were interested to see what its like. Mine is 4 bolts on the chassis and 2 bolts on the intercooler

This is coming on really well man, fair play to ya for chopping off the rear end too ha.. Have been thinking about doing it to my yoke but can't commit to it yet ha... love the kouki spoiler! Suits the car well, looking forward to seeing what else you do!
im getting some serious inspiration for mine atm. if you dont mind me askin how much did it cost to get the bumper bar built? pm if ya want
Yey feedback :D
Thanks johnraff it wasn't easy. I surely didn't like taking away the fact the car looked like a road car on track in my eyes and i didn't want to go overfenders but anyway shit happens and now it needs must!
Keep that feedback coming lads! since i got a good phone i don't mind taking pics anymore and progress is ongoing with the car still. Pics to come the weekend hopefully!
Seriously cool machine !! Is this goin ta be just track or road and track ? Be mean road car !!:)
only a 1 picture teaser update for now, hopefully won't be too long for you guys to see the next big update
only taken today, pic of fresh paint reflection. Cars having a full respray. First time painting with 2k paint and a gun and so far, the results are looking good!
https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/...35126601_n.jpg
shes comin on well dec, cant wait to see the paint work
any update on this ? :D
theres an update brewing a while but not yet ill wait till its done fresh.
But i will give you's this. The car is painted, and its all wet sanded and buffed and it came out bloody awesome! Wouldn't have guessed its done in a shed! ;)
Its taking so long to complete im in drift withdrawal mode :P Between college and trying to do as many hours in work as i can aswell to pay for this yoke its slow but mid term now and ill try put some well needed time into here and hopefully get it finished!
Cheers for keeping tabs on the thread though dturbo!
haha no bother lad im 15 myself dying to do something like this :) love this build
I wasn't going to update this thread till it was finished, but its taken a lot longer than planned
So back to the painting, big task! Lets just say if your thinking of re-painting a car to the effort i went to, you'll know it won't be easy but its worse again :p
This is the first time the car would be all one colour in my time of ownership funny enough, i never wanted to paint it myself because I wanted it done right. I didn't want it like a black orange skin. Then again theres no fun in getting someone else to do it so for my own learning i decided to go ahead with doing it myself
Ill let the pictures do the talking

Onto wet sanding. All done by hand but well worth it. Paintwork would have been fine as is but the difference after wet sanding was night and day!
Started off on any little blemishes with 1500 wet and dry on my finger
https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...77998088_n.jpg
https://scontent-b-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/...33539137_n.jpg
Then, get a block and sand it with 2000 wet and dry and make sure to have good coverage and even coverage everywhere!
https://scontent-a-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/...22474268_n.jpg
Then after doing a panel or section at a time i.e roof, then wing, then door etc etc i got a lend of a buffer and buffed the hole car with Farecla G3 compound, thats just what i used.

I got some ebay mirrors, dtm style ones. 50 euros posted where could you go wrong, way better than the stock mirrors and since i got them i noticed that loads of people use them in motorsport on all sorts of cars! I like them! I got them painted and they look a treat! result!

I also put in some aerocatches i bought a while ago and never fitted.
https://scontent-a-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/...20521812_n.jpg
adding back on some bits, the ducting for the filter, and my front splitter/canards i had on before. I think they ad a bit of aggression to it.

So theres my update for now. Rear bumper is still under repair, even though i bought a ''new good quality bumper'' it ended up being the biggest piece of shit quality thing ever so the old bumper is under repair and ill mount the spoiler permanently soon too. When thats done i can start at removing the stuff from the garage that i had for prepping for paint, clear the shed and put the car in to get ready to drop the subframe and install my new parts and refine other suspension bits all round. So update to come soon about that. Ive some wheels i bought for it aswell, not giving them away just yet but my issue is there 17's so they probably will look too small under it. But it should look old school :D
Hope the update was worth the wait. Im over the moon with the paint finish, no way showroom but damn good in my eyes.
Credit to you Dude!!
Love this car!
good man for getting so much of it done yourself, looks well!
Paint turned out very well, fair play man. Look forward to seeing it all done :D
Cheers lads i really appreciate it!
I changed my turbo elbow aswell and got rid of the screamer elbow. Lets see what she sounds like.

And btw, my shotguns are working very nicely. Rice Crispy's want me to make a new ad for them, snap crackle and pop :P

Was wondering what the metallic noise was coming from the rear of the car, slowly got worse and worse I now found out. The exhaust has broken away from around what I can amagine to be some sort of resonator, ill get it off when im stripping the rear end and have it welded and braced and it'll be hunky dory!
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...61075830_n.jpg
Im waiting on crystal corner lights to come from conceptua tuning in england. Hopefully they arrive soon
is that a standard exhaust?
the crystal clear corner lights will look mint, cant wait to fit them too :D
No its not standard. From the cat back was a jasma system and the rear section just had a shotgun mated to it. Looks like it was repaired before. Probably after the slap it got off the ground in goldstone the last day, it might not be that low but its low when a hump is involved and a bit of speed :P
Ye i got onto conceptua tuning about the crystal corner lights, that had ordered s14a ones by accident and my ones should be here next week. If anyone is ever thinking of buying anything off them, your nearly as good to just ring them because there customer service is top notch!
If people have seen on my facebook page recently I mentioned I got recruited by GTChannel. So just by chance I spotted an incar video i passed by and never uploaded so here it is check it out! Seemed really fast in this one and i gave it death! Seems like it loves speed with the 17's under the back of it. Smoke coming up on the passenger footwell is a combination of tyre smoke and the downpipe melting the underseal :p

Since ive finished my metalwork projects in college, im using my time to make these
https://scontent-b-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/...65864848_n.jpg
I just made them from the look, no measurements. Im going to use a helicoil kit to make a good thread in them than just relying on the plastic. Not sure which one is going into the S14
They look class dec FairPlay
Some car this is, great that your able to do so much work with it yourself too!
Cheers Graham!
I might whip off my handbrake handle and make one in the college for the car. Main thing i noticed with the compbrake one it doesn't sit how I think it should. Im going to try see if i can get the little rosejoint on it to wind in more and not have it in so far in the handle and maybe make the handle longer. I might just end up bolting a handle to the original with a better grip on it. We'll see what my mind imagines on the day :p
